With what you're planning to do, will the clients be hard-locked to
use _your_ "ls -a[h]", or plainly; your set of local programs, any
which can act as directory-listers?

If, then maybe you could either re-compile all listing apps (make the
clients recompiled "which ls" exist in a path= variable exclusive to
them,) or make it illegal through the config-files for everything that
can list dirs to 'see' dotfiles, (well, I don't know..)

Something must be possible.. - Maybe you don't need to hide them any
more than stripping the capability off of some few programs.
