Bill, I agree that that using crle is supposed to be The Right Way in
Solaris 10 (over LD_LIBRARY_PATH). But didn't OP specifically say that
he did not want to use it, since it changes the library path system-wide
and he only needs this for one very particular case?

   I'm with Mr. Katz: write it into the shell script couchdb if you can.
