We use some little canon's at work, model DR-2050c.  I don't personally 
use them a lot, but we have several around, and they seem to work pretty 
well, we don't get many complaints about them.  We also have the larger 
models, but they get pretty expensive.  I have no experience with them 
on MacOS, however, so i cannot comment on that, but i would suggest that 
they are worth looking into.
