I still use a lot of floppies. It's part of my old Mac software archive
project. You can still buy new 1.4m disks, and despite what people say,
the will work (at least for a few days) as 720k/800k disks if  you
cover the hole.

What I did do, which has really saved me was to buy several floppy drive
cleaning disks. I wet it lightlty with 95% grain alcohol (it's cheaper
than 70% isopropil here), and clean the drives.
