1.  The maintainer isn't a jerk?
2.  It's free with no "subscription" crap required
3.  It's actually updated on a regular basis

I switched from Sveasoft to DD-WRT a couple years ago, and never looked
back (until I got rid of my WRT54Gs and went to all-Apple 802.11n gear).
