Yes.

SAS and SATA are both children of the new design concept that serial
devices are faster than parallel. Eventually they will reach a maximum
speed that can't seem to be broken, and some brilliant engineer will say,
"why don't we use two data lines and double our throughput".

Eventually we'll end up with something like a "super wide SCSI".
