My take is that, should the actual tech (and not the "Genius") come 
back to you about the smoke being the cause, that they prove it by 
actually dis-assembling in your presence, and using an alcohol-tipped 
swab or whatnot to show you the visible tar.

Aren't the pieces of the monitor we are talking about hermetically 
sealed in some way?  Wouldn't a dusty environment also cause the same 
problems?
