Almost nothing, by your standards.

No cellphone, no MP3 player, no Leatherman, no office security card ...

However, life in France being a bit diffo, I do have to carry some decidedly
odd things when I go out. If I'm in the car, for example, I have a wad of
car registration/insurance/inspection papers to carry, but not to leave in
the car, so I have a small shoulder bag. In it is also a couple of packages
of Kleeex (French public restroom facilities tend toward the very basic),
our passports and international driving licenses, a pen, a Swiss army knife
(medium), and, usually, a digital camera.

You don't leave the papers in the car becase posession of the papers and the
car would make it very easy for a car thief to re-register it in his name.
Or so I'm told.

If we're walking, whatever other crap we need goes in the bag, but it's not
very big.

If I'm going to have to get net-connected, I take my laptop in its larger
bag, and suffer from Nokia-770-envy.
