Not a very big deal actually.  The extra torque of a diesel will cause
more problems than engine RPMs.  And most automotive diesels have a wide
enough RPM range that any RPM differences are negligible (4k RPM vs the
6k or 6.5k RPM most gassers see).

The only other major part of the driveline in my diesel Jeep that varies
from a standard V6 Liberty is the transmission.

One of the reasons the transmission varies is that the stock 4speed
automatic can't take the torque of the diesel.  It has the 5-speed auto
they put behind the 5.7L V8 found in Dodge trucks.
