Well, that's true, but that's not really the issue here.

That stuff is plenty nasty, but it's not the issue either.  The issue
here is that I cannot do something as simple as tell MacOS "This user
has permission to mount disk images".  Macs have always suffered worse
than most GUIcentric OSen from the classic problem of the GUI:  It makes
the commonplace trivial, but makes the unusual all but impossible.  If
it didn't occur to one of the GUI designers that you might want to do
it, no matter how conceptually basic "it" is, it probably can't be done
without hacking code.
