As far as NetBSD goes, I think there's another reason why one would want 
to run it.  If the original operating system on the machine is too old.

For example, I don't think I'd want to do real production work on 
Ultrix/MIPS.  I wouldn't bat an eyelash before doing real work on 
NetBSD/PMAX, though.
