No it was not. It was a spreadsheet with a GUI, one of the first
programs for the Macintosh, Lotus was a direct ripoff of Visicalc by
their marketing rep.

In case any one cares, the largest developer of programs for the Macintosh 
always was and still is Microsoft. 

Excel may have lost some of it's goodness when it was ported to Windows.
Word was ported to DOS and really lost almost everything that made it
worthwhile.
