Description

>From late August, 2006 all existing access to the anonymous ftp server
to download patches will cease.

Document Body

The first version of this document in July 2005 advised that at a future
date anonymous ftp would be discontinued. After 12 months of early
warning, access to Sun patches using the anonymous ftp will cease in
August/September 2006.

This is the 2nd notification of the pending change. Alternatives for
customers using Anonymous FTP for patches are listed below.

Alternative 1

Use the Sun Update Connection <http://www.sun.com/service/sunupdate/>

Alternative 2

For customers with a Sun Service plan you can make use of the free
scripting service provided by wget starting today June 1, 2006.

For customers without a Sun Service plan access to Software Updates
(patches) via wget will be available mid July 2006.

Customers can access all individual Sun Operating System Updates
(Patches) with the exception of third party and software updates for the
Java Composite Platform Suites (JavaCAPS) with only a Sun Online Account
and the acceptance of the Software License Agreement from mid July 2006.

To use wget, you will need the following:

1. Your Sun Online Account

If you do not have an account with Sun, please Register
<http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/register-user-form.pl?viewmode=newuser&
stage=1> and accept a Software License Agreement.

2. The Wget software.

If you don't have Wget it can be downloaded from the following
sources:

        - GNU Download Site (Source) http://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/wget/

        - Sunfreeware (Compiled for Solaris SPARC)
http://www.sunfreeware.com/programlistsparc9.html#wget

        - Sunfreeware (Compiled for Solaris x86)
http://www.sunfreeware.com/programlistintel9.html#wget

3. JDS systems should come with wget preinstalled.

4. Set up your wget script. Sun has supplied a free test script for your
