OpenBSD Just Works on Sparc Hardware, and runs like a scalded cat to 
boot.  PF is dead fricking simple as well.

I choose OpenBSD because it's an OS that's designed to be secure.  A 
box-stock install has great security in place already, requiring little 
to put out on the 'Net.  PF, well, I like pf because I happen to think 
the way the syntax for the rules want you to.

I have loads of experience with setups strikingly similar to yours.
