" Besides that, terminal fonts are fixed and don't scale. I currently use
" 8x16 on my 1400x1050 X display, and I don't really like the fonts that
" are available.

my /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias says
8x16 "-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-120-100-100-c-80-iso8859-1"

xlsfonts -fn "-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--*-*-*-*-c-*-iso8859-1"
produces
-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--0-0-100-100-c-0-iso8859-1
-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--12-120-72-72-c-0-iso8859-1
-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-120-100-100-c-80-iso8859-1
-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-80-iso8859-1
-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-170-100-100-c-120-iso8859-1
-sony-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-230-75-75-c-120-iso8859-1

the first is a scalable font iirc.

" Does anyone know of a UNIX/X terminal program that can scale a fixed
" font?

does this qualify?
