[geeks] SGI Octane system temp

Hi,

I was wondering if there's a way of discovering within IRIX 6.5.15f the responses from the various sensors which might exist within an Octane. I'm
guessing there are some, however I'm only guessing. I'm interested in CPU temps and any other environmental info.

I'm thinking about going the whole hog and upping for a TRAM'd dual R12/14 system but I just tried fastfan = 1 and was a little dismayed that it turns
my Octane into a jet engine - which is nice, but isn't girlfriend friendly. Well for that matter, neither is a SSI->EMXI + 2 x R14 + 030-1467-001 mobo
upgrade ... but what she can't see ;)

I was thinking about a case mod or at the very least (and easiest) PSU fan replacement with a quieter one. I guess I'm going to be struggling to find ....

a) feedback on people who reck their multi-tens-of-thousand USD Octanes
b) power hooks for supplying power to lots of little PC type fans
c) a suitably large enough PSU fan which /didn't/ sound like a jet engine

I suppose the 2nd hand ebay market is making (a) less of an issue, but it's youngness is still probably a major factor.

So anyway, here I am to find out ..

Additionally, are those Cherokee Octane2 PSU's any quieter? I know it's probably just a power upgrade and fix for the dodgy caps in the normal one but
as it's made by a different company, I'm thinking there might be other diffs
