It takes a lot longer to get a gun out of the holster and
pointed at someone than it does to cover the necessary ground
to stab someone with a knife.

Blades also go through kevlar, so if you don't have some
type of plate in the vest, it's fairly easy to kill someone
with one stab.

Cops are *very serious* when someone is perceived as aggressive
and has a blade.
