Try setting the frame size down below 1500 and see what happens.  If I
recall, ~1450 was a sweet spot for me once when I was doing something
similar to what you're doing.  

Also, try setting the interface to a hard setting, 10Mbps half duplex -
to remove any question of negotiation on the interface.
