Most IRIX 6.2 binaries are built for MIPS3, so unless it explicitly 
says "needs R5k/R10k (MIPS4 Instruction set)" it will work.  The 
freeware is all built for MIPS3

Hell no.  You need a challenge/onyx/I2 class machine or an 
O2/Octane/Onyx2/Origin class.  You'll need other hardware to do R10k. 
Not that it matters much, the crimson is a *BAD ASS* machine, 
especially with RE or VGXT graphics.
