They're quite rugged and run forever on AA batteries.  Full schematics are
available in the service manuals, and they're fairly easy to expand.  I
still haul mine out every once in a while.

Color laptops, probably depends how you define "color".  If you mean color
VGA-resolution LCD displays in commodity boxes, probably the Toshiba
T5200, Sharp 8000 or some 286 by Mitsubishi will win the race.  I think
they all came out in 1989.
