Yes, and before the ban on 'assault weapons' an AR-15 (the civilian
version of the M16) only cost around $500. Keep in mind quantity
discounts, the $300 figure for the military is about right, maybe even
on the high side. The only reason AR-15's are so expensive is the
demand, and supposed lack of supply.
