This is one reason why my pickup truck has a diesel engine in it. I get around
16mpg either city or highway, unless it's fully loaded, then it drops to 11mpg.
A gas powered truck with a similarly powerful engine would drop to something
like 6mpg (down from maybe 10).

And once the winter is over I'm going to experiment with biodiesel in it as
well, nothing like reusing french fry oil :)
