I'm guessing but probably nostalgia. According to the main page,
mirror.apple.com is an Apple Network Server 700/150 running AIX. It's
provided by the Unix Platforms & Solutions Group. The link to
www.solutions.apple.com is broken so they may be mirroring that page for
themselves.
