That's because you've never had to pay 3k a month rent plus 4k a month in
other bills/living expenses (Silli valley during the boom).

The house I just moved in to is a nice 4 bedroom 1-1/2 bath, real big
kitchen with walk in pantry and huge yard duplex (they call them semi
detached here) at the end of a dead end street. I'm paying 1650 euro which
in USD works out to $1450. That actually very good for the area I live in
and the quality of accommodation.
