Would you like to provide a URL to something that says if you have a
separate /usr, that Sun wont give you support?

If you've got a Platinum contract, its more like this:

<you>: "Yes, I have a Platinum contract, number <xxxyyyzzz>, and I'm having
problems with my system. Everything's under a single / partition, though"

<them>: "No problem sir, would you like us to spit or swallow? I'll have
 someone over there right away."

We've got everything from time-and-materials all the way to Platinum support
on various machines where I work, and never ONCE have they questioned our
partitioning schemes (altho we *dont* put everything under /). They've
asked why we dont have certain patches installed on certain machines in the
past, but once we explained our reasoning (e.g., "that patch breaks Oracle on
this combination of hardware and software", etc) they're like "Oh, okay."
