TiVo.  Product development.

They just released the new version of the software, and
they rewrote all the stuff that was in Tcl in C++ to save
on memory.  Because of this, it would break a popular
hack people have used to do PPP through the serial port.
So, the programmer got permission to put a PPP stack in
the replacement binaries AND replaced the old script with
a text file explaining what happened and how to use the
backdoor to use the new implementation of what was a hack.

I just think that is really cool.  How many other consumer
electronics companies would do that?
