[geeks] sigh.

I got to play on a brand new well loaded 15k a little while back (72 proc,
288GB ram). I'm still drooling at what it was capable of. The system was
handling ALL of the transaction processing for something like 70% of the POS
terminals in Ireland, plus all the credit card and debit card transaction
processing for three of Irelands five largest banks. That took up about 5%
of the systems time. As an amusement the admin was running continuous disk
benchmarks to his three different attached storage subsystems #(a T3, a
Symmetrix, and an MTI box). Another 25% of the system. The only time the
thing ever went over 50% was when they were doing DB snapshots for their dev
machines.

They also had a brand new fully loaded 6800. They weren't doing anything
with it. It was just sitting there and apparently had been for a couple of
months. The machine cost them 600k and they just let it sit there.

I want one. I have no idea what I would ever do with it since I don't use
half of my currently available computing power, but I still want one.

Oh and am I the only person who finds it obscene that a box a bit bigger
then my fridge is worth 10 times my house?
