This EXACT same thing happened to me about 9 years ago.  I was stopped in 
traffic (huge traffic jam) and decided that I'd get into the far right 
lane so I could head north on a different road.  Nobody was in the lane so 
I pulled into it and drove along on my merry way.  

OUT OF NOWHERE comes this idiot in a Ford probe who is going 90-100 mph in 
that lane (he apparantly did exactly what I did - except 1/4 mile farther 
back on the road and jammed the gas to the floor).  He has to slam on the 
brakes to avoic hitting me.  He gets annoyed that I made him look 'stupid' 
so he did exactly what happened to Alex - he tried to hit me!  I had 
enough and made a beautiful 45 degree turn at 40mph onto another main road 
so quick that he couldn't follow me and lost him. 

Idiots.
