Yup, it uses IMAP. It doesn't have all the features of IMP (contact list,
etc), but it doesn't need MySQL (which was the main reason I didn't like
IMP).

It was __very__ simple to configure and get running (>10 minutes).

does SquirrelMail do IMAP to access the mailboxes?  that's one of the things
that i love about IMP/Horde, i can run it on my webserver and have it
retrieve
mail from the mail server running IMAP.  no need to upgrade to a beefier
mail
server just to run webmail.
