It was based on Ian Flemings first Bondish short story and originally
featured the character of John Boldman (a later alias of James Bond) which
was later changed to another name that I no longer recall. The story itself
was more in the nature of crime fiction tha spy adventure fiction (more in
the thomas crown affair or maybe poirot style). Elements of the story were
used in later books as well.

Overall an okay movie, Niven was as usual great but he didnt have the
essential character that defined Bond, his roughness under the smooth
surface. That's really what makes Bond so interesting I think.

I'd rate the bonds in this order

Sean Connery (of cource)
Pierce Brosnan
Timothy Dalton
George Lazenby (Absolutely horrible, especially since the book was so
important to the Bond charachter)

Casino Royale, 1967. It's not an 'official' Bond flick.
