The mylar strip in the money is a fraud prevention device - new bills
missing the stip can not be told from counterfit bills that never had the
strips (that's kinda the whole point of the strip!)...

So yes, as a matter of fact they do lose their value when you rip out the
strip. ;^)

If you take the serial numbers off an old style $20 bill, *it* loses it's
value too I'd imagine...
