It works much better than it did years ago.  Today's codecs & buffering
techniques handle lower quality links than they did before.  Check ping
times from point A to point B, then from point B to point A.  If ping
times are 150ms or less, you should get near toll quality...150-250ms will
get you the occasional glitch as the jitter buffers get a work out...above
250ms is pretty much unusable.
