The Radware Web Server Director can do "proximity balancing". The WSD at
each site compares notes about ICMP response to determine who is closer to
the requestor. It works, but we stopped using it for now. We didn't see a
whole lot of benefit since having bi-coastal data centers doesn't mean the
requestor is where we thought he was. This is because of the way larger
ISP's build their own backbones and how they peer. It did mean that we would
choose the data center with the least latency to the requestor, but because
of peering issues this could change in the middle of the transaction.
