Patch Name: PHSS_9899 Patch Description: s700_800 10.X OpenMail B.04.00 intermit. slow login (NIS) Creation Date: 97/01/22 Post Date: 97/02/03 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.01 10.10 10.20 s800: 10.01 10.10 10.20 Products: OpenMail B.04.00 Filesets: OpenMail.OM-RC,B.04.00 OpenMail.OM-CORE,B.04.00 Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: No Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/10.X/PHSS_9899 Symptoms: PHSS_9899: 5003266502: Problem with caching of port numbers in advmail.sckd. Intermittent slow cc:Mail login onto Openmail server. After keying in the user's username and password the PC would just hang for about 40 to 50 seconds before cc:Mail main screen appears. A typical good login would only take about 3 to 5 seconds. This only happens when NIS is being used. Defect Description: PHSS_9899: 5003266502: The delay was due to a getpwuid() call within advmail.sckd. In addition the parent advmail.sckd is caching an outdated ypbind port in binder_port and then passing this old value to the child advmail.sckd. As a result the child process times out after about 35 secs trying to communicate on the wrong port. It then gets the right port number from portmapper and updates the binder_port value in the child's process space. Unfortunately the parent's cached binder_port value is not updated in the parent's process space. Consequently, all subsequent login still have the slow login problem until this parent advmail.sckd is killed and restarted.
