Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Login as root. 3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory. 4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch: cd /tmp sh PHSS_8508 5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the patch: swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \ -s /tmp/PHSS_8508.depot 5b. For a homogeneous NFS Diskless cluster run swcluster on the server to install the patch on the server and the clients: swcluster -i -b This will invoke swcluster in the interactive mode and force all clients to be shut down. WARNING: All cluster clients must be shut down prior to the patch installation. Installing the patch while the clients are booted is unsupported and can lead to serious problems. The swcluster command will invoke an swinstall session in which you must specify: alternate root path - default is /export/shared_root/OS_700 source depot path - /tmp/PHSS_8508.depot To complete the installation, select the patch by choosing "Actions -> Match What Target Has" and then "Actions -> Install" from the Menubar. 5c. For a heterogeneous NFS Diskless cluster: - run swinstall on the server as in step 5a to install the patch on the cluster server. - run swcluster on the server as in step 5b to install the patch on the cluster clients. By default swinstall will archive the original software in /var/adm/sw/patch/PHSS_8508. If you do not wish to retain a copy of the original software, you can create an empty file named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE. Warning: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful when using this feature. It is recommended that you move the PHSS_8508.text file to /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference. To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the tape drive, use the command: dd if=/tmp/PHSS_8508.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k Special Installation Instructions: A. Patch PHSS_8508 Questions This series of questions is intended to guide you, the user, to a decision on whether you need to install patch PHSS_8508. Go through the questions below in sequence until your response indicates either that you do not need the patch, in which case you should ignore further questions, or that you need to install the patch and perhaps then take additional steps. 1. Is your system running HP-UX 10.10 or HP-UX 10.20? No: Patch PHSS_8508 is not needed since it does not apply to your system. 2. Does your system run licensed software that uses Gradient Technologies Inc's iFOR/LS licensing, or does your system act as a software license server for applications that use Gradient Technologies Inc's iFOR/LS licensing? No: Patch PHSS_8508 is not needed. 3. Does your system have only one Ethernet Interface and no other LAN interface of any kind? One Ethernet: Patch PHSS_8508 is not needed. 4. Does the 'i4target' command return a "Permanent Target ID" value of "ff000000"? Yes: Patch PHSS_8508 must be installed. Skip to Section B to determine if you have to reinstall any licensed application software. 5. Note the "Permanent Target ID" value returned by 'i4target'. Is it different than the value returned by either of the following: HP-UX 10.10: 'i4admin -s' HP-UX 10.20: 'i4admin -ln' Yes: Patch PHSS_8508 must be installed. Skip to Section B to determine if you have to reinstall any licensed application software. No: Patch is not needed. B. Application Patch Questions Do you need to reinstall your application(s)? 1. Is your system running software which has a nodelocked license? Yes: The application that uses the nodelocked license must also be patched. The application vendor must rebuild the application's binaries using new libraries available from Gradient Technologies. The new binaries must be patched onto your system. 2. Is your system running software which gets a license from a remote license server? Yes: The license server system must have patch PHSS_8508 installed. The server must rebuild the license database. Your client system does not need to install the patch. C. License Update Question Do you need to replace your license for an existing application? The nodelock licenses do not need to be changed. Licenses on a server need to be updated only if you change the target ID from the one the server started on. If you use 'i4target -c' to change the target ID to the ID that matches the data base, you do not need to update the license.
