Patch Name: PHSS_7034 Patch Description: s700_800 10.01 extends life of xdialog in 10.X world. Creation Date: 96/02/27 Post Date: 96/08/02 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.00 10.01 10.10 10.20 s800: 10.00 10.01 10.10 10.20 Products: N/A Filesets: InstantIgnite.PROD-TOOLS Automatic Reboot?: No Status: Special Release Critical: No Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/10.X/PHSS_7034 Symptoms: PHSS_7034: xdialog continued to work as HP-UX went from 9.X to 10.X even though the migration was not supported officially. A Japanese customer used an un-supported feature of xdialog to display Japanese characters in a message window. When the customer migrated to 10.01, xdialog failed to display Japanese characters correctly. Defect Description: PHSS_7034: The currently shipped version of xdialog is linked to X11R5 and Motif1.2. This change seems to have broken whatever allowed Japanese characters to appear correctly for 9.X. WARNING: All cluster clients must be shut down prior to the patch installation. Installing the patch while the clients are booted is unsupported and can lead to serious problems. The swcluster command will invoke an swinstall session in which you must specify: alternate root path - default is /export/shared_root/OS_700 source depot path - /tmp/PHSS_7034.depot To complete the installation, select the patch by choosing "Actions -> Match What Target Has" and then "Actions -> Install" from the Menubar. 5c. Warning: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful when using this feature. It is recommended that you move the PHSS_7034.text file to /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference. To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the tape drive, use the command: dd if=/tmp/PHSS_7034.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k Special Installation Instructions: Important note: THIS PATCH IS A SPECIAL WORKAROUND FOR UNSUPPORTED SOFTWARE. NO MORE WORK WILL BE DONE ON XDIALOG. XDIALOG, XCAL, XHPCALC AND DATEBOOK WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE AT ALL AFTER 10.20. If xdialog does not work for you now, replace it with this patch; otherwise, you do NOT need the patch. An undocumented font list resource was delivered into later versions of X11R4 for the Motif1.1 library. This resource is known to exist in HP-UX 10.01, because it is included as a standard resource. When using xdialog with Japanese characters, the font must be specified on the command line. Do NOT use the "font" option; Begin the call to xdialog with xdialog -xrm "fontList: *jpn12*" ... The command xfontlist | grep jpn should provide a list of valid font names.
