As a result, the ovstatus output will report wrong number of ovw sessions registered with ovuispmd. PHSS_27322: NNM 6.2 patch NNM_00924 containing a fix for SR no. 8606222723 breaks topology export. PHSS_27319: Enhancement request for NNM to support handling of SNMP traps of size up to 64KB. PHSS_27309: NNM 100 node license not recognized by NNM when NNM250 Instant-On license is already installed. PHSS_27305: If an interface that was in an administratively down state transitions to an operationally up state, NNM will recognize this, but will not begin normal status checks of that interface. Only a restart of NNM or a demand-poll of that node will cause that interface to start getting the normal status polls. PHSS_27299: After an ovbackup, snmpCollect process could fail to respond to an ovresume. PHSS_27271: ovw hangs on remote Xserver disconnects. PHSS_27269: The '-m' option for ovrepld doesnt appear to function. PHSS_27260: Very low performance when exporting large topology database to the embedded database. PHSS_27255: The event seen in trapd.log is different from the output of ovdumpevents when an application exits ungracefully. PHSS_27248: (1) On Windows 2000 ipmap throws an error "Fatal ipmap error :Submap not found" (2) On Windows 2000 certain map symbols are missing. PHSS_27240: On solaris, when "ovdumpevents" is run with the "-t" option, tailing of new events doesn't happen. PHSS_27236: There is a memory leak in the function OVEventDbGetOVsnmpPdu(). PHSS_27205: ovstatus shows wrong number of active ovw sessions, when one or more ovw session exits abnormaly. PHSS_27183: Connection labels on Meta-Connection submaps appear transposed. PHSS_27173: SR 8606242072: '-import' option of xnmsnmpconf does not process the rest of the import file entries on encountering an error. SR 8606244294: '-import ' option of xnmsnmpconf does not address the possible case changes when doing a name lookup. PHSS_27142: On applying the filter to always export all events for all nodes, the ovdwevent export fails on Solaris platforms. PHSS_27129: xnmloadmib's error/warning messages about the duplicate MIB_MODULE name were not localized to Japanese locale. PHSS_27124: cdpView.opvl is terminating with an error message indicating invalid number of fields returned by a CDP Cache table query from a CDP enabled device. cdpView.ovpl is terminating with an error message: "FATAL ERROR: no alias for.............". PHSS_27122: On failover the status of the level2 interfaces for the smart connector nodes reported by the CS, will change from "Unknown" to "Critical" on the MS. PHSS_27114: xnmevents displays OV_Default event's copy made for a particular source, instead of the actual event defined in trapd.conf, when some events are sent for that particular source. PHSS_27112: Usage of ranges, like 1-4, in the LIST field of xnmcollect results in snmpCollect core dump. PHSS_27110: SR8606217820: If one enters a report name composed entirely of blanks, and then clicks Apply, the resulting report configuration is corrupted. Viewing scheduled reports will show items looking like "PASS daily C/masters/RptConfig/Inv/+/daily" but selecting these items will not activate the Stop, Suspend, or Resume buttons. SR8606217822: If one creates a Performance/Cisco Router General (or similar) report with odd chars in the node name, a REPORT SYSTEM ERROR message results. No errors were indicated while entering the node name(s). PHSS_27083: Additional logging of trace messages was not occuring. PHSS_27081: The redirection url *View.ovpl was not functioning, when the browser locale was not C. PHSS_27068: When loading a MIB with a bad end-of-file marker, xnmloadmib doesn't report errors, but will have problems with subsequent MIBs being loaded because of the faulty MIB. PHSS_27052: The interface label for the interface of a remote node on the MS is different from the actual interface label on the CS. PHSS_27050: The Symbol labels of all the interfaces on a device from certain vendors are the same. PHSS_27013: A certain libovutil function call by OVO results in pmd misbehavior. PHSS_27001: When NNM detects that the name of a managed node has changed, it will update the node with the new node name. However, the selection name for the interfaces contained within the node still contain the original node name. This causes confusion for operators that see an interface going down, but the name associated with the interface leads to a node that does not exist. PHSS_26999: When NNM detects that the name of a managed node has changed, it will update the node with the new node name. However, the submap name for the node's submap is still the original node name. This causes confusion for operators that see an interface going down, and click on the event, and it pulls up a submap titled for a node that does not exist. PHSS_26940: Under Japanese locale, reports that generate graphs had the X/Y axis labels garbled. PHSS_26932: SR 8606247376: snmpCollect exits with INTERNAL_ERROR on bad response PDU SR 8606241437: snmpCollect stores wrong counter values in the database. SR 8606233830: snmpCollect exits with message >8k. This problem was fixed in NNM 5.x but was not merged forward to 6.x. PHSS_26282: IPMap core dumps when 1. star segments exist, 2. persistence levels is 'All levels', and 3. map filters are applied. PHSS_26255: ovalarmsrv node filtering is too slow and needs to be faster. This affects SIP as well as the web-based alarm viewer. PHSS_26247: Ipmap shows memory growth when it runs for a long time. PHSS_26236: netmon will spend a long time using 100% of CPU when starting up. It will also do the same thing when the SNMP config database is changed. There may also be a large number of OV_Warning events issued for each single interface in the database if the netmon.statusIntervals file includes a filter name that does not exist in the filters definition file. This event is set to 'Log only' by default so it does not appear in the event browser. PHSS_26178: Crystal Reports templates are currently not Supported. Also, there is currently no support for Customer segmented reports. PHSS_26159: When the user creates a filter like: "ovdweventflt -n '' -o '*' -i Y", the ovdweventflt command inserts nodename and mib_objectid into the nnm_event_limits table alongwith the single quotes enclosing them. As a result, during an "ovdwevent -export", the event filters specified for a node or mib_objectid (through ovdweventflt) do not get applied, and all the events get exported to the datawarehouse irrespective of the filter applied. PHSS_26148: The ScheduledMaintenance circuit will not work for specific IP addresses in NT. PHSS_26145: statusIntervalConf.ovpl fails if run from an HA cluster package PHSS_26143: The OV_Change_Poll_Parms event was not displayed in xnmevents even after configuring it to be displayed in a category through the Event Configurator. PHSS_26141: In xnmcollect the "File->Close->Save" operation does not result in the file snmpCol.conf being re-loaded by snmpCollect. This is unlike the "File->Save" operation which does result in the snmpCol.conf file being re-loaded. PHSS_26134: Cannot change the default logfile size for ovactiond. PHSS_26132: Removing and adding back the quick navigator toolbar button ('[Toolbar]- >toolbar/navig.24.pm:toolbar/nonavig.24.pm') causes its bitmap to not be displayed on the toolbar. PHSS_26130: 1)netmon core dumps after calling abort when ecs annotation server closes its connection with netmon. 2)netmon can core dump in appendIfAliasString(), free'ing ifAlias , this happens only when useIfAlias=true. 3)netmon can core dump when tracing netmon health when trace mask is 0x7ffff7ff PHSS_26128: ovw core dumps, when removing ALL pulldown menu items from a top menu bar, e.g. removing everything under "Options". This happens with menus which have at least one separator as a menu item. PHSS_26126: ovw core dumps when maps are deleted using 'ovw -deleteMap' at the command line. PHSS_26116: ovrestore.ovpl created looped symbolic link files. Extra symbolic links were created everytime an ovrestore was executed after an ovbackup. This happens only on Solaris systems. Eg: /etc/opt/OV/share/symbols/C/SymbolAlert/SymbolAlert -> /etc/opt/OV/share/symbols/C/SymbolAlert PHSS_26108: If a symbol's "class:subclass" graphic is missing from the server system (causing the default "square" to represent a node), nodeView fails to bring up ovtopodump information when node is double-clicked. PHSS_26093: On Unix, ovw panner performance was very sluggish if the user moved the panner box around to display different portions of the panned submap. The individual symbols were redrawn many times, and the panner box could not keep up with the mouse movement. This was not a problem on NT. In addition, if an HPUX-11 system had an expired license, ovw would fail to start ovnnmPassword. PHSS_25742: Consolidated Patch PHSS_25730: The HP OpenView on the Web menu items have been updated to provide better links to the HP OpenView Support web page. PHSS_25721: "rnetstat -o cdpglobal" shows garbled string for "Device Id" MIB object. PHSS_25702: The executable path field in an LRF file and the ovsuf file does not allow spaces to be specified in the path. This results in an ovstart failure "No such file or directory" for the application on Windows NT or Windows 2000. PHSS_25699: On Windows platforms, the command "ovdwtrend -sum" does not run properly. This is a valid command, but on Windows, the following error message appears: ovcolsum: Must supply sumFrom ("-si") paramater The above message is followed by a "Usage" message and the command then aborts. On all platforms, ovdwtrend does not accept a repeat option to allow trend data to be re-aggregated within the same 24 hour period. PHSS_25697: SR 8606223046:-The year option for status polling interval on NT is limited to seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks. The NT on-line documentation incorrectly listed years as a valid option. SR 8606209259:-$a does not generate IP address of a host in xnmevents as explained in the on-line help of Event Configurator. This is true in NT and unix. PHSS_25695: Japanese multibyte strings that come in a trap are not handled correctly. The trap formatting functions do not work correctly with japanese multibyte strings PHSS_25693: If xnmgraph is invoked on an object through ovw and the objects selection name has spaces in it, then xnmgraph fails. PHSS_25691: ovrepld sometimes aborts after release of failover polling. PHSS_25679: Slow performance of NNM processes due to failed name service queries. PHSS_25660: Events created by the ECS circuits reuse the same uuids after doing an ovstop and an ovstart. This can result in event correlations being done incorrectly. Every time an ovstop/ovstart is performed, any events created by ECS will have uuids starting with 30303030-3030- 3030-3030-303030303000. The uuid of subsequent events created by ECS simply increment the uuid by 100. PHSS_25649: 8606221306: ovlaunch hangs at 40% if a Web UI user is not associated with any roles in the htgroup file ($OV_WWW/etc/htgroup). 8606132326: "Access" statements should be recognized by Network Presenter registration reader. 8606125324: ovlaunch aborts when given an empty URL parameter. This results in either a cryptic "CGI Error" message in the web browser window, or (on NT) an "ovlaunch.exe - Application Error" dialog. Can happen if URL is generated by bad registration file (e.g. 3rd party jovw reg file failing regverify). 8606111385: snmpviewer always accessible, even when login is enabled. 8606218004: Network Presenter and Web Alarm Browser hang as result of SecurityAccessException thrown when Thread.stop() called under Java 2 (Netscape 6.1 or 4.7x Plug-ins). PHSS_25636: 1. The ECS ScheduledMaintenance circuit can fail to correlate events at the beginning of a new month when the WeekDay OutageSpecification is used. 2. When the ECS ScheduledMaintenance circuit enters a specific outage period it generates a Planned Outage event for the first outage period but not always for subsequent outage periods. This can cause events to be correlated under an event that is old or that is not even in the Alarm Browser. 3. To specify an EventSourceIdentification for events that is different than the DefaultSourceIdentification requires the user to add an entry to the EventSourceIdentification table for each specific trap OID. This can lead to a very large number of specific trap entries in the table making it hard to maintain. PHSS_25594: 1. When you select multiple mib values in xnmbrowser on Windows/NT or Win2K for a given node name or IP address, then click "graph", you will get an xnmgraph window pop up, and subsequently, an "Error Exit" window which states: "No nodes specified" Usage: xnmgraph [options] -mib .... 2. xnmgraph will not graph IPX devices via xnmbrowser. xnmgraph will open an "Error Exit" window which states: "Incorrect number of ':' (9, 8 required) separators in option" PHSS_25572: netmon can potentially get in the situation where it continually schedules a PICK_SNMP_ADDR_POLL to a device which is not responding to SNMP. This can only happen if the pickSnmpAddrPolls option is enabled. PHSS_25566: netmon changes the status polling interval for secondary failures on important nodes. This interval should NOT change for nodes which pass the important nodes filter. PHSS_25564: The Solid Server (ovdbrun) gets caught in an infinite checkpoint loop when sent the backup command immediately after starting. Consequently if ovbackup is run after an ovstop, the Solid Server will hang during its backup phase causing ovbackup analytical phase to timeout and fail. PHSS_25550: When the Edit->Event Correlation menu is run from the Event Configurator (xnmtrap) on a REMOTE CONSOLE, the target server hostname in the URL is incorrectly set to the local console hostname rather than the actual Management Station that is serving the console. The URL should contain the hostname of the management station serving the console. PHSS_25515: CDP view always discovers beyond CDP nodes that are either Unmanaged or not in the Topology database. PHSS_25481: By default, the ovcoldelsql command trims (deletes) ALL raw and reduced trend data from the data warehouse. This behavior will likely deceive a user who thinks, for example, that the following command will trim only text collection data: # ovcoldelsql -trimTextDays 25 In addition to trimming text collection data, the above example will also delete ALL data from the raw and reduced trend tables in the data warehouse. A second problem is that the"-nodelete" option in ovcoldelsql is ignored for text collections. This option is intended to tell the user what trim operations will happen without actually performing the trim (deletion) of data. Unfortunately this nodelete option is applied only to the trend tables. Data is still actually deleted from the text collection table even though the nodelete option is specified. So for example, the following command is very misleading in that text collections WILL actaully be deleted: # ovcoldelsql -trimTextDays 1 -nodelete PHSS_25479: After exporting topology data to the data warehouse, a query on the data warehouse does not reflect any node having the isATM capability set to TRUE, even when there are nodes in the network which have this capability set to TRUE. This problem exists on all NNM platforms for the following capability fields: isATM, isRMON, isRMON2, isDS1, isDS3, isFrameRelay, isSONET, isCDP. PHSS_25431: 1. On a system with tcp protocol disabled, ovlogin.exe continues to function as if the protocol were available. It should detect the problem and indicate failure. 2. (NT only) ovreppublish.exe aborts for reports configured with return email addresses after installation of NNM_00734. PHSS_25425: NNM does not support Unisphere Networks ERX devices. These devices report 96000 interfaces in their interface table. This can cause netmon to core dump due to lack of memory when trying to read all these interfaces in prior to adding the data to the topology. PHSS_25382: If the user changed the severity of an event with multiple event browsers displayed, xnmevents would core dump. In addition, xnmevents would occasionally core dump if the user deleted large numbers of events at once. PHSS_25364: In certain cases it is impossible to add a node to NNM's object database after that same node has been deleted. This is typically seen when using the "loadhosts" command to add the node. The loadhosts command will fail with the error message: ERROR: Could not add node nodename to topology: OVW Database Failure: Object not found PHSS_25349: On dual NNM + DM installations, large CMIP traps (6K or 7K) cause pmd to coredump. Stack trace: OVsnmpAsn_build_int() in libovsnmp is top entry on the stack. PHSS_25343: 1) Netmon can abort when reading the ifAlias values from a device having many interfaces with duplicate ifAlias values. 2)When netmon on a management station tries to release failover polling upon restoration of a remote collection station, netmon aborts. This has been observed on SOLARIS platforms, but could happen on any platform. 3) When doing a demand poll on a node, and SNMP is being used for the status poll, and secondary failure polling options are enabled, an SNMP error encountered during status poll of an interface will cause the demand poll to hang. Causes of SNMP errors could be SNMP timeout, polling an interface that no longer exists on the node, or possibly some others. 4) The configuration poll for any repeater MIB (RFC 2108) device will abort prematurely such that the ip.ipAddrTable and ifTable will never be looked at. This could cause some layout inaccuracies. PHSS_25224: 1. If an event is received that contains the Alarm Category override varbind, the event is forced to be displayed in that category in the Alarm Browser even though the user does not want the event to be displayed. The network manager shoud have control over whether or not the event is displayed. 2. Windows Managment Console xnmevents core dumps EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION with following stack trace in xnmevents_err.log:Stack Trace: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION exception (code 0xc0000005) at address 0x78002e40 Exception Parameters (2): 0x00000000 0x443e333e 0012dc00 00409212 MSVCRT!strcat+0x62 (16006120 1144927038 1245104 2013265975) 0012dc68 0040519e xnmevents!addEventToList+0x501 (55 2 0 997348069) 0012f0d4 43554d5f xnmevents!orgmain+0x277e (811544927 809656113 825253681 1280525407) Similar core dumps can occur on UNIX platforms. PHSS_25222: ovnnmInstallLic fails to install a new license into the .license file. PHSS_25144: - Links in short-cut view (OvDocs/C/nodeView/cdpView.html) do not work and table is mal-formed, for cdpView. - ovtopodump.ovpl produces output with every character followed by PHSS_25087: 1) If the ifAlias text of an interface is changed, then the symbol label will revert to displaying the ifName text and not the changed ifAlias text. The database is still updated with the correct information. Also, if the useIfAlias command line option on netmon is changed, the map is not updated automatically. 2) Netmon aborts with removeIPAddrFromIface in the stack backtrace in netmon_err.log or drwtsn.log. This happens when DHCP Polling options are being used and an address matching the DHCP filter is found to be down longer than the DHCP delete interval. 3) Netmon process consumes 100% of CPU and does not do any of the polling it is supposed to do. The ManageX integration with NNM is being used in this environment. 4) When the -k nonIPStatusPolls=false option is used with netmon, netmon will not poll the level2 interfaces using snmp anymore, but instead sends a ping to 0.0.0.0 for level2 interfaces. This can be readily observed by using -m 0xf tracing in netmon and looking at the $OV_LOG/netmon.trace file. PHSS_25085: When a segment symbol is copied in the network submap, ipmap will exit with an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. PHSS_24969: Netmon can dump core with a stack trace similar to the following: ff01b980 _OVlogCrash (a, 1, ffffffff, 114ab8, 0, 0) + 690 00025704 __0FSfatalSignalHandleri (a, 0, ffbec0d0, 0, 0, 0) + 44 fec15ad8 sigacthandler (a, 0, ffbec0d0, 4, 0, b35740) + 28 fef1c638 OVsnmpAddTypedVarBind (b49180, f9ce8, 122728, 5, 0, 0) + 328 0004c8ec printRequest (b49180, 1, 9, ffbeccd0, 1, ffbec8d0) + 28c 0004d39c nextSnmpRequest (b49180, b49840, 64b2b8, 1, 1, 1) + 89c 0004fba4 gotSnmpResponse (b49180, b42858, b497e0, fed98938, ffbece00, 12ffa4) + 150c 000407b8 recv_snmp (a0, b42858, b497e0, b49180, fec32110, fef1613c) + 868 fef164d8 _OVsnmpRecvCallback (b3fee0, b497e0, b49a78, ffbed700, 0, 0) + 300 fef16670 _OVsnmpInputPending (b3fee0, b42868, 0, fec32110, 0, 0) + 90 fef16810 OVsnmpRead (ffbedd3c, 21, fec39d14, fec3517c, ffbedc3c, 1a) + 180 00028048 __0FKNetmonLoopv (3b40820a, 0, 0, 135bb4, 400, ff357d04) + 12b8 0002a588 main (4, ffbef07c, ffbef090, 114400, 0, 0) + 20c0 00025424 _start (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0) + dc OpenView crash dump finished at lun 02 jui 2001 16:47:04 MET DST MET DST PHSS_24967: On UN*X, if the interface selection name contains '()' then some NNM tools on ovw GUI cannot work correctly with sh syntax error message. PHSS_24961: If the Find By Attributes... dialog box is resized significantly smaller, the Object Attributes list disappears from the dialog box. PHSS_24952: When an event filter is created in xnmevents with a number of sources, and then exported to a file, some filter source entries are omitted in the saved file. PHSS_24911: Threshold and rearm values in snmpCollect get rounded off if they are very large values ( > 7 digits) PHSS_24842: Some NNM programs crash when large object-ids or hostnames are used. PHSS_24840: Doing Actions->Highlight Source on Map on an event would result in all submaps associated with the event's source to be opened, rather than just one submap. PHSS_24717: Dragging a symbol from another submap to a submap with point-to-point layout caused the symbol to jump down to the lower left corner of the submap, instead of where the user placed the symbol. This happened only with point-to-point submaps with autolayout on. PHSS_24680: Japanese error messages were incorrect for xnmsnmpconf, xnmevents and rping. PHSS_24631: Object based status polling (new in NNM 6.2) does not work properly for NNM running in a Japanese locale. To demonstrate the problem, select "Options->SNMP configuration" from the NNM (ovw) menubar and then press the "Poll Objects" button. This will launch the "Status Polling Interval Configuration" window in a browser. On Japanese systems, the "Object Class" drop-down list will be NULL. This drop-down should instead contain a list of device classes. Note: The above menu selections, buttons and labels are given in English. These will actually appear in Japanese on Japanese systems. PHSS_24616: Netmon aborts. The stack backtrace found in netmon_err.log will depend upon which machine the customer is using: HP-UX will give a stack backtrace that contains the following procedures: _sigreturn updateObjectIntValue updateIfSegType changeIfSegType changeLayoutSegment layoutManyHeardOnPort layoutTargetNodes _layoutDeviceTableEntry layoutDeviceTableEntry layoutConnectorPortTable dot1dBridgeTables SOLARIS will give a stack backtrace that contains the following procedures: clearIfReduxStarFlag layoutManyHeardOnPort layoutTargetNodes _layoutDeviceTableEntry layoutDeviceTableEntry layoutConnectorPortTable dot1dBridgeTables Windows NT will give a stack backtrace in drwtsn.log that includes the following procedures: changeLayoutSegment layoutManyHeardOnPort layoutTargetNodes _layoutDeviceTableEntry layoutDeviceTableEntry layoutConnectorPortTable dot1dBridgeTables PHSS_24614: If customer is upgrading from earlier version of NNM to 6.2, and they had been using labels on connection symbols (lines on ovw submap), these labels will be overwritten by the new "Port Labeling" feature of NNM 6.2. These labels may have been either manually added to the submap by the customer, or by some third-part application running on top of NNM. PHSS_24239: Consolidated Patch PHSS_24229: Older shared libraries not included in the 6.2 release. PHSS_24176: 1. ovdbsetup -o does not work if Oracle examples installed. 2. ovdwunloader/ovdwloader may fail based upon case of table names. 3. ovcolqsql error value out of range. 4. snmp_trend_dataset shows instance, not alias, for text collections. 5. ovdbcheck often makes ovstart hang for minutes. 6. ovcoltosql aborts on NT when signal received. PHSS_24155: 1. After selecting CDP view (URL=http://aphrodite:8880/OvCgi/cdpView.ovpl? noSplash=1) the output on the screen is first a heading : CDP View as of Wed Apr 4 15:09:25 2001 and then : FATAL ERROR: no alias for 2. If one node is selected on ovw map and cdpview is brought up, it is supposed to give only the nodes connected to that node. However, it brings up the entire "cdp enabled" topology. 3. There is a problem reading the CDP ovw regfile. 4. When nodeView.xsl is built, the cisco symbols files are not properly parsed. 5. The color of unmanaged nodes (brown) shown in nodeView/cdpView does not match those in the jovw/ovw view. Its off by a shade PHSS_24150: 1. libovw.jar hangs when applications make large ovwdb requests 2. Web ovtopodump gives FATAL ERROR when dumping management station. 3. Defect Description: PHSS_27332: Cumulative Consolidated Patch Resolution: Cumulative Consolidated Patch PHSS_27324: The API used by ovuispmd to determine the state of ovw sessions was not checked for error values when it failed. As a result, valid ovw sessions were not registered with ovuispmd. Resolution: All the error conditions set by the API are now evaluated before un-registering an ovw session from ovuispmd. PHSS_27322: The patch NNM_00924 containing a fix for SR no. 8606222723 did not handle a possible memory allocation issue Resolution: Memory allocation issue has been taken care of. PHSS_27319: SNMP traps of size greater than 8KB were not handled by ovtrapd and libovsnmp. Resolution: ovtrapd and libovsnmp have been modified to handle the SNMP traps of size upto 64KB. Following changes have been made to ovtrapd and SNMP Commands. Refer to the README.64KB_TRAP.text file for more information in /opt/OV/prg_samples/ovsnmp directory which is provided by this patch. 1. Changes to ovtrapd: ====================== Three new command line options have been added to ovtrapd: -L Option enables the 64KB functionality, i.e. relaying of the traps over 8KB to 64KB to a UDP port on a specified host. -p UDP port number to relay the large traps. If this option is not specified, ovtrapd will NOT relay large traps. There is no default value. The -p option will not accept the UDP port number which is used by ovtrapd for receiving the SNMP traps. -h Hostname to which the large traps are to be relayed. The default hostname is set to localhost. No error checking will be performed on the specified hostname. No snmp configuration database lookup will be performed. It is recommended not to use this option when traps are to be relayed to a UDP port on the same host where ovtrapd is running. For enabling the 64KB Trap Relaying functionality, ovtrapd requires first two options, i.e. -L and -p options are mandatory for enabling the 64KB Trap Relaying functionality. The -h option is valid only when -L and -p options are specified. E.g., for 64KB Trap functionality, ovtrapd can be used as: ovtrapd -L -p [ -h ] Functionality of other options remains unchanged 2. Changes to SNMP commands: ============================ A new command line option, -l, has been given to SNMP Commands. This option can be used to send and receive the large SNMP traps, requests and responses. This -l option does not apply to "ovevent" command. E.g. For sending the Trap/Inform request in a packet upto 64KB in size, we can start the command as: snmptrap -l PHSS_27309: NNM gives higher priority to NNM250 Instant-On license over NNM 100 permanent license. Resolution: 50 and 100 node permanent licenses now have a higher priority than NNM250 Instant-On Licenses. PHSS_27305: When NNM changes status of an interface from an administratively down status to an operationally up status, it was not scheduling a normal status poll for that interface. Resolution: netmon code is modified to start scheduling normal status poll on an interface that is transitioned from administratively down status to operationally up status. PHSS_27299: The default snmpCollect resume timeout value can be insufficient for large snmpCollect databases leading to ovresume failure. Resolution: A new option '-t' has been introduced into ovbackup.ovpl. This allows the user to specify the timeout value in seconds for NNM processes to resume. PHSS_27271: Remote X Server is not able to send finish notification when lan disconnects, preventing ovw from shutting down. So when any X request is sent from ovw to XServer, ovw continues to hang expecting response from the Xserver. Resolution: A new optional command line switch is added to ovw. When this switch is set, ovw code is modified to check the health of Xserver periodically. During the periodic health checks, If the X server is shown to be disconnected, all applications will be closed and ovw will exit after writing unsaved data into the database. PHSS_27269: The scanning of the command line options to ovrepld was not proper. Resolution: Changed ovrepld to scan the command line options properly. PHSS_27260: The topology export program, ovdwtopo was not optimized for performance. Resolution: Performance greatly improved by internal program reorganization and optimization of database interactions. PHSS_27255: For logging the event to trapd.log, the data was picked from wrong varbinds. Resolution: The varbind list of the relevant PDU was corrected before sending it to the routine that logs to trapd.log. PHSS_27248: ovw, on startup builds an internal representation of objects in the map database. This is done by iterating through the submap and symbol lists. During this initialization if some invalid submaps or symbols are encountered the object is deleted, causing the corresponding list to be corrupted. As a result not all submaps and symbols get created. This leads to the 2 symptoms described above. Resolution: The logic for destroying an object was modified, so that the lists are not corrupted. PHSS_27240: This problem occurs as the file pointer is not getting reset to the current position whenever new events are added to the eventdb files. Resolution: The code was changed to reset the file pointer to the current location whenever new events are added to the eventdb files. PHSS_27236: Memory allocated to a particular pointer was not freed properly. Resolution: The allocated memory is freed properly now, to fix the memory leak problem. PHSS_27205: ovw does not send exit notification to ovuispmd when it exits abnormaly. This leads to inconsistent ovstatus report. Resolution: Code is modified to report only the live ovw sessions to ovstatus. PHSS_27183: The end point symbol information and the label text passed to the OVw APIs for the creation of a connection and its label were not symmetric. Resolution: Code was introduced to check that every time ipmap creates a connection, the end point symbol information is passed to the OVw APIs in the right order to preserve consistency of the label text and the symbol endpoints. PHSS_27173: SR 8606242072:xnmsnmpconf exited with an error for the first unresolved host entry in the import file. SR 8606244294:xnmsnmpconf did not take care of case changes during host name resolution. Resolution: SR 8606242072: A new command line option '-forceimport' has been introduced in xnmsnmpconf to handle unresolved host names entries in the import file. Usage: xnmsnmpconf -forceimport SR 8606244294: Code has been modified to handle case changes in host name. PHSS_27142: Long text strings in event varbinds were incorrectly handled. Resolution: Data structure to handle long text strings has been modified. PHSS_27129: The new error/warning messages introduced with the fix for 8606227006 were not localized to Japanese locale. Resolution: The new error/warning messages introduced with the fix for 8606227006 are now localized to "ja_JP.SJIS" Japanese locale. PHSS_27124: Local Port information if not provided by CDP enabled device on a query to the CDPCache table was leading rnetstat to provide an output less by a field. This forced cdpView.ovpl to terminate wih an error message. A CDP enabled device not returning it's name causes the script to perform an information query on the device with a blank device name, leading to the termination of the script with the error message. Resolution: rnetstat has been modified to provide a tab character field output if the Local Port information is not returned by the CDP enabled device on a query to the CDP Cache so that cdpView.ovpl does not terminate with an error message. The device name would be substituted with it's I/P address in case the device name is found to be blank, so that the information query to the CDP enabled device would succeed. PHSS_27122: The information that the node is a smart connector is not forwarded from the CS to MS. Resolution: Changed netmon, not to poll these level2 interfaces if their status was "Unknown" before failover. PHSS_27114: There was a problem in the algorithm used to find the best event match. Resolution: The algorithm used to find the best event match has been corrected to perform the correct event match, when event copies are made. PHSS_27112: Ranges are not supported in the LIST field of xnmcollect. The instances should be entered one by one separated by commas. Resolution: xnmcollect was modified to disallow the use of ranges in the LIST field and to give proper error message. PHSS_27110: SR8606217820: Insufficient checking of input strings for report names. SR8606217822: Insufficient checking of input strings for nodes. Resolution: SR8606217820: Code added to verify input strings. SR8606217822: Code added to verify input strings. PHSS_27083: Option for additional logging of trace messages was not implemented. Resolution: Removed the option for enabling the additional logging of trace messages. PHSS_27081: Incorrect information being passed before the redirection URL was received by the browser. Resolution: Code that caused the incorrect information reaching the browser has been modified. PHSS_27068: If the user provided MIB has bad end-of-file marker, then xnmloadmib appends "-- END OF MIB: " marker in the same line with that improper last character in the consolidated mib text file, $OV_CONF/snmpmib. While unloading this faulty MIB, xnmloadmib removes the MIBs that were loaded after the faulty MIB. xnmloadmib removes these MIBs along with faulty MIB since the end of mib, "-- END OF MIB: " marker got corrupted. Resolution: After writing the MIB file into consolidated mib textfile, $OV_CONF/snmpmib, and before parsing it, the end of MIB marker is written on a new line explicitly. PHSS_27052: The information whether to use ifAlias or not for labelling the interface is not passed from the CS to the MS. Resolution: Added an option(-a) to ovrepld, based on which decision will be taken whether to use ifAlias or not for labelling the interfaces reported by the remote CS. PHSS_27050: The interface label for the interfaces of the node, which doesnot support the ifXTable, will be labelled with the first word of the ifDescr mib variable. This field is not unique with some of the network card vendors, because of this many of the interfaces are labeled with the same text. Resolution: The labeling alogrithm has been changed to allow the complete text of ifDescr to be used for the label. For this to happen the environment variable OV_NNM_IFLABEL_IFDESCR should be set to true. Note: This fix is only applicable to devices with the following sysObjId's: .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.186 .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.110 .1.3.6.1.4.1.3199.10.1 PHSS_27013: One of the libovutil functions was not using the memory properly. Resolution: The libovutil function is modified to use the memory properly. PHSS_27001: Topology library was not causing the selection name of interfaces to be updated whenever the node name was changed. Resolution: The topology library has been modified so that if a node's name changes, all the node's interfaces will have their selection names updated. PHSS_26999: When a name change event came in, ipmap was updating the labels on all the symbols for the object, but forgot to update the submap title for that object's child submap. Resolution: The ipmap process was fixed to update the submap title for the object's child submap when a namechange event comes in. PHSS_26940: The grapher technology does not handle localized strings for X/Y axis. Hence the graphs are broken with respect to the X/Y axis under Japanese locale. Resolution: Since their is a limitation of handling the localization in the graphs, X/Y axis are made non-localized. PHSS_26932: SR 8606247376: Code did not check for a particular bad response PDU. SR 8606241437: Data collected during collection check was stored in the database. SR 8606233830: The buffer size used to store the data was insufficient. SR 8606227163:Code did not check for a particular bad response from agent. SR 8606226617:Certain Devices which do not support sysUpTime, made snmpCollect continuously poll those devices. Resolution: SR 8606247376: Code has been modified to handle the particular bad response PDU. SR 8606241437: Code has been modified not to store data collected during collection check. SR 8606233830: Buffer size has been modified to handle the storage requirements of the data. SR 8606227163: Code has been modified to check for the particular bad response from agent. SR 8606226617: Code has been modified to make snmpCollect defer collections on devices which do not support sysUpTime. PHSS_26901: 8606227070: Check was not made to see if the trap received(for a level2interface) was from the device, for which N flag is set in the oid_to_type file before scheduling the Config Check. 8606237408: Netmon dumps core because a null interface pointer is passed to a function that did not handle it appropriately. Resolution: 8606227070: Changed netmon NOT to schedule Config Checks on receiving linkUP/linkDown traps for the level2 interfaces of the device, for which N flag is set in the oid_to_type file. 8606237408: Netmon code is modified to check for null interface pointer during repeater mib query and layout. PHSS_26859: 1. When an ECS circuit, or the ECS engine itself, is reset, any events currently held by the circuit are output so that they are not lost. In the case of the Scheduled Maintenance circuit, the first event during a planned outage is held in a table, and hence output when the circuit is reset. 2. When the MaintenanceList table is processed in the ScheduledMaintenance circuit, a "Not Found" exception is generated for inactive entries. This exception terminated the processing of the list, including any other valid entries. Resolution: 1. The first event in a ScheduledMaintenance period is no longer held in a table. It is correlated and suppressed, and hence deleted from the circuit. 2. The "Not Found" exception is now handled so that processing of the MaintenanceList can continue. PHSS_26856: 1. The event create_time was not set properly for an event that was being fed from one ECS circuit to another. 2. An extra delete of the event was being done in the Serialization(feed) section of the code. This resulted in an attempt to delete an already deleted event. Resolution: 1. Now the create time of the event is set to the current time when feeding it from the input queue into the circuit. 2. The extra event delete is no longer performed. PHSS_26780: Currently, the only way to manage/unmanage objects via the command line is to use xnmtopoconf which requires an Enterprise license to run. Resolution: ovtopofix has been changed in order to allow the user to set the status of a local object to managed or unmanaged. See the ovtopofix man page for more details. PHSS_26778: Problem 1 : The code was not handling query results which had multiline data for the sysDescr mib variables. Problem 2 : The array that holds the hexadecimal values was not reinitialized to null at the end of each loop. This caused the next hexadecimal value to be appended to the previous value. Resolution: Problem 1 : Codes were introduced to handle multiline sysDescr values that were returned by a snmpwalk. Problem 2 : Codes were introduced to reintialize the array that holds the hexadecimal values to null at the end of each loop. PHSS_26763: This problem was caused by some code in NNM that wraps the client SQL connect routine. This code tested the ovdbrun port to see if it was active. The ovdbrun process responded to this test by allocating some memory that never got freed. Resolution: The test of the ovdbrun port was not necessary, so it was removed. PHSS_26753: OVtopoCGI.pm assumes that nodes with object IDs greater than 1,000,000 do not exist in the topology database. However, it is possible that object IDs greater than 1,000,000 can get assigned. In such cases, nodeView.ovpl will incorrectly report that the node is not in the topology database. Resolution: OVtopoCGI.pm has been modified to allow object ids upto a very large value, 2146483648, to be considered as valid ids. It is not likely that object ids larger than this value will be assigned. PHSS_26751: This problem occurs since the host-byte-order had not been converted to network-byte-order before storing the variable binding information to database. Resolution: The code was changed to convert the IPADDRESS varbind value to network-byte-order before storing into database. PHSS_26747: NullPointerException was thrown because ObjectName specified in the URL was not found in the TopoDb or NNM Map. Resolution: The code was modified to check for the indicated object's existence in the map prior to opening the map. PHSS_26738: Exit function in ovrepld DOES NOT delete all the Collection Stations from its internal Collection Station List. Resolution: Changed the exit function of ovrepld to delete all the Collection Stations that are in its internal Collection Station List. PHSS_26717: The defect is that the use of arbitrary port assignment for listener sockets is not acceptable when there is an intervening firewall between the two programs that will communicate. For much of NNM, this is not a problem as the port numbers are well known, but nmdemandpoll does not have this model. Given this fix, it is now able to at least have a set of specific port numbers to utilize. Resolution: The resolution is to create a file, $OV_CONF/nmdemandpoll.ports, that will be able to specify the ports to attempt to use for communications. The model will now exhaustively search the file until it finds a port that it can bind. This is the port number that is sent to the remote netmon for communications. PHSS_26715: 8606230518:There is a data overflow issue resulting in the defect in pmd. 8606242395:There is a data overflow issue resulting in the defect in rectrap. 8606250480:The computation of required free space to allocate more buffer space was not performed correcly. 8606249229:The computation of required free space for allocation of additional buffer space was not performed correctly. 8606249226:The logic used in the code does not handle properly the case of an SNMPV2 inform PDU with error status set. 8606250486:pmd behaviour is affected due to a wrong buffer size used. The size of format buffer used is not sufficient for handling large trap sizes. Resolution: 8606230518:Proper checking introduced to prevent the data overflow problem in pmd. 8606242395:Proper checking introduced to prevent the data overflow problem in rectrap. 8606250480:The buffer space computation algorithm has been corrected. 8606249229:The buffer space computation algorithm has been corrected. 8606249226:The code was modified so that ovtrapd will properly handle the case of SNMPV2 inform PDU with error status set. 8606250486:The format buffer size used in the OV_EVENT stack has been changed to handle the problem. PHSS_26713: 8606223041: Repeated DNS lookups resulted in slow export of event data. 8606234357: Typographical error. Resolution: 8606223041: The code was changed to do away with the repeated DNS lookups. 8606234357: Reference page error corrected. PHSS_26711: This happens due to a limitation on the size of event that can be logged to the event database. Resolution: Introduced new check points to handle the problem. PHSS_26688: Netmon parses the HPoid2type file right . However, based on the device type it unsets the 'G' flag by default. Resolution: Code has been modified to not unset the 'G' flag. PHSS_26686: The code to check the "oid length" in a pdu did not handle all cases. Resolution: Code has been modified to do proper checking of the "oid length" while decoding a pdu. PHSS_26684: 8606173366 Documentation was incorrect for NT reference pages 8606224398 Man page/Reference page documentaion was incomplete Resolution: 8606173366 Reference pages are updated to describe the -H option as applicable to UNIX systems only. 8606224398 Valid values for the topology status are added to Man pages/Reference pages PHSS_26668: The source code used to build the patches NNM_00856, PHSS_26282, PHSS_26283 & PSOV_03099 did not contain the required fix. Resolution: The right source code is now used to build the patches. PHSS_26547: This is a request to allow a customer to be able to specify IP addresses that should be excluded from NNM's node name selection process. Resolution: This patch extends NNM functionality to allow a customer to specify IP addresses that should, if possible, be excluded from consideration when NNM chooses a name for a node. The list of excluded IP addresses must be placed in configuration file $OV_CONF/excludeip.conf. For more details, see the man page (or Windows NNM reference page) for excludeip.conf that is included in this patch. PHSS_26511: Ovrepld will re-verify the nodename for every change that comes in from a collection station. This verification involves looking up the name for every IP address on the node, which can take a long time. Resolution: Since interface status does not impact how the node name is determined, ovrepld has been modified such that if the only change being reported is an interface status change, no nodename verification will be done. PHSS_26486: The problem occurs because the buffer used to copy the interface details is 255 bytes. When the size of the interface details exceeds this value, it causes a buffer overflow. Resolution: Appropriate checks are added to limit the size of the interface details stored in the buffer. PHSS_26471: The Application Object Ids are a part of the mapinfo structure. During map copy, updating of the map header information happens in two separate steps - first, the mapinfo structure is updated and next, the Application Object Ids are updated. This leads to inconsistencies in the map database if ovw is killed after execution of the first step and before the start of the second step. Resolution: When updating the header information in the map database, the mapinfo structure and the new Application Object Ids are now updated in a single step PHSS_26460: When required ifTypes are not available, the filter library generates large error messages. netmon and snmpCollect are not able to handle such large error messages and dump core. Resolution: Code has been modified to handle large error messages properly. PHSS_26392: When node status events are generated, there was no check to see if the primary interface failure was on that node. In this case the node status event should be treated as a primary failure. Resolution: When node status events are being generated, a check is made to see if the primary failure interface is on this node. If it is, the node status event is sent out as a primary node failure. PHSS_26374: The code to handle different input cases for target IP address did not have all the validation steps required. Resolution: The code is modified to address the missing steps in the validation of target IP address. PHSS_26371: There was no check for finding the duplicate module-names when loading a new MIB. Resolution: Code implemented to check for the duplicate module-names when loading a new MIB. On command-line version: Whenever xnmloadmib finds any duplicate module-name w.r.t already loaded MIBs when loading a new MIB, it will give an error, and tell user to use -replace option to force loading of MIB Module from this new MIB. If we use -replace and if there is any duplicate module-name, then it will load the new MIB, but it will give a warning after loading the MIB. On GUI version: Whenever xnmloadmib finds any duplicate module-name w.r.t already loaded MIBs when loading a new MIB, it will give a Reload-Module Confirmation Window. If user selects button to load module from this new MIB, it will load the MIB. As in command-line version, we get a warning after loading the MIB with duplicate module-name. PHSS_26335: xnmcollect dies on performing 'Test SNMP' on a node with large number of interfaces. This is caused by a buffer overflow which leads to stack corruption. Resolution: The code is modified to address the buffer overflow. PHSS_26324: This problem is caused because of improper handling of previous and next pointers in the remoteMgrs list of ovtopmd. Resolution: ovtopmd has been changed to handle the remoteMgrs list properly. PHSS_26307: Symbols on a submap are arranged in symbol lists. When symbols lay stacked one on top of the other, they are arranged in a bottom-to-top order in these lists. So when looking from 0...n-1, the bottom symbol on the stack was selected instead of the top. Resolution: The for(;;) loops used for iterating through the symbol lists were changed to loop from n-1...0. PHSS_26286: NNM does not handle traps larger than 4.5K correctly. ovtrapd either exits or dumps core on receipt of larger traps. Resolution: ovtrapd is modified to drop traps larger than 4.5K without exiting or dumping core. Traps upto 4.5K are passed into the NNM event subsystem for further processing. PHSS_26282: A NULL pointer was passed to a function. Resolution: If the pointer variable has NULL value, it is not passed to the function. PHSS_26255: A link list search done when comparing the nodes in the event list to the nodes in the filter is causing the slowness. Resolution: The linked list is now only used for wildcards in the filters. All other lookups are now done via a hash table. PHSS_26247: Memory allocated to symbol lists was not deallocated after the symbol lists were deleted. Resolution: Codes were added to deallocate memory used by the symbol lists. PHSS_26236: This problem is caused by an inefficiency in netmon when it processes its list of interfaces. It will check each interface against all the filters listed in the netmon.statusIntervals file, even when this check is not needed. It will also generate a warning event for each time this is done and there is a non-existing filter specified. Resolution: Netmon has been changed to handle parsing of the netmon.statusIntervals file in a more efficient manner. PHSS_26178: Required for OpenView Reporter support. Resolution: Moved existing reports to SUPPORTED status and added new "Group" reports. Also added a database table, named "groups" and a cgi program to support Customer segmented reports. PHSS_26159: ovdweventflt command inserts nodenames and mib_objectid into the nnm_event_limits table alongwith the single quotes enclosing them. During an ovdwevent -export, the event filters specified for a node or mib_objectid (through ovdweventflt) do not get applied (because the nodes and mib_objectids are compared with the ones in the nnm_event_limits table along with the quotes). Therefore all the events get exported to the datawarehouse irrespective of the filter applied. Resolution: The code has been fixed to strip the single quotes off the nodename and mib_objectid before inserting the filter into the nnm_event_limits table. The code has been changed to display the filters in the order in which the filters shall be applied. PHSS_26148: There was a problem in IP address comparison due to the byte ordering difference on NT for Network Byte Order and Host Byte Order. Resolution: The code was changed to take care of the byte ordering difference on NT. PHSS_26145: statusIntervalConf.ovpl script uses a function to get the physical hostname to decide whether the script is being run on an NNM Management Station. In stead of checking only with physical host name in MC/SG environment, OVservername should also be used. Resolution: Another function that gets the OVservername is now used to check whether the script is being run on an NNM Management server. PHSS_26143: The OV_Change_Poll_Parms event was being suppressed by the ConnectorDown circuit. Resolution: The ConnectorDown circuit was modified so that it does not suppress the OV_Change_Poll_Parms event. PHSS_26141: The re-loading of the snmpCol.conf file did not happen because the OV_Data_Collect_Chg event was not generated on the "File->Close->Save" operation. Resolution: Code was modified to generate the OV_Data_Collect_Chg event on the "File->Close->Save" operation. PHSS_26134: Argument given to getopt() function should have ":" after a valid option that accepts an argument .Due to a coding error this was not the case for the "-s" option. This caused "-s" option to not accept any additional values. Resolution: Code change done to allow argument to -s option. PHSS_26132: The recreated toolbar button does not load the pixmap from the pixmap file. Resolution: The attribute which the toolbar button checks, in order to decide if the new pixmap has to be loaded from the pixmap file, has been modified. PHSS_26130: 1) On UNIX systems, if the ecs annotation server closes its connection to netmon, netmon was aborting due to a bad file descriptor in a select call. 2)In the function appendIfAliasString(), the buffer, in which the old/new index and ifAlias is copied, was overflowing. 3)This is because of passing of a NULL string to print to the log file. Resolution: 1)Logic was added to netmon to detect the ecs annotation server disconnect and try and re-establish the connection. 2)Allocated enough memory to hold the string being copied. 3)Changed code to not pass a NULL string to print to log file. PHSS_26128: Menu deletion does not cause separator widgets (which may be a menuitem of the menu) to be deleted. The separator widget keeps the NULL value. While adding menu items again, using the NULL separator widget causes a core dump. Resolution: Before final Menu deletion, a check is made for any remaining seperator menu items. These are now deleted before the deletion of the Menu. PHSS_26126: A count variable was not initialized properly. This count variable is a part of a structure which is passed to an OVwDb API. So, the count member in the structure can carry garbage values when passed to the OVwDb API. Resolution: The count variable is appropriately initialized to prevent it from carrying garbage values to the OVwDb API function. PHSS_26116: Solaris's 'ln' command behaviour differs from HP-UX's. 'ln' would create links for symbolic links as well. This is not the case for HPUX systems. Resolution: The 'ln' command behaves differently on HPUX and SOLARIS, therefore the code has been changed to check for the following condition: If a link is a symbolic link and if the OS is SOLARIS then forcefully remove the symbolic link and recreate it. PHSS_26108: A NullPtrException is generated by the nodeView applet when a symbol with invalid symbol type is encountered due to non-checking of return value after symbolType lookup. Resolution: Change code to check for null return value and, if found, perform an additional search for the SymbolClass-specific Generic entry prior to using global default. PHSS_26093: The function that drew the individual symbols did not properly clip the map widget causing redundant redraws. When starting ovnnmPassword due to license expiration, the child process was killed when ovw quit. Resolution: The symbol drawing function now properly clips the map widget so only designated symbols are redrawn. A small sleep() statement was added to delay the demise of ovw. PHSS_25742: Consolidated Patch PHSS_25730: The HP OpenView on the Web menu items did not have the optimal URLs to the HP OpenView Support web page. Resolution: The HP OpenView on the Web menu items now have the optimal URLs to the HP OpenView Support web page. PHSS_25721: MIB objects, in cdpGlobal group, that return NO-SUCH- INSTANCE on query were not handled correctly for display. Resolution: Local arrays are now pre-initialized to handle MIB objects that return null strings due to NO-SUCH-INSTANCE. PHSS_25702: Leading and trailing spaces are removed as part of the executable path processing. An incorrect assumption was made that the first space encountered after regular text was the beginning of trailing spaces and the rest of the text could be ignored. This is not true if there are embedded spaces in the path. Resolution: The possibility of embedded spaces in a path is now taken into account. PHSS_25699: This defect was caused by a coding error in the ovdwtrend command. It was introduced when the code was modified to handle embedded spaces in the directory path on Windows. In addition, the ovdwtrend command has never implemented support for a repeat option. Resolution: The coding defect was repaired so that the ovdwtrend command will now work properly on Windows. Support for a repeat option (to allow trend data re-aggregation in the same day) was added to the ovdwtrend command. The ovwdtrend man page was modified to document the new option. PHSS_25697: SR 8606223046:-The NT on-line help had incorrect text. SR 8606209259:-The on-line help in NT and unix were incorrect. Resolution: The resolution provided is English only. Japanese fix will be released at a later date. SR 8606223046:-The NT on-line help has been corrected to omit the invalid years option. SR 8606209259:-The on-line help on NT and unix has been corrected to indicate the right behavior of $ variables. PHSS_25695: Japanese multibyte strings that come in a trap are not handled correctly. The trap formatting functions do not work correctly with japanese multibyte strings. Resolution: The function handling varbinds does not take care of multibyte characters within the string. It tries to handle them as if they are normal ascii characters. PHSS_25693: ovw passes the selection names to xnmgraph without enclosing them is quotes, so there is no way for xnmgraph to delimit different selection names. Resolution: Currently, when ovw invokes xnmgraph with selection names as parameters it also passes an argument '-useOvwSelName'. This indicates to xnmgraph that the nodes being passed are selection names rather than node names or ip addresses. The application registration files have now been changed so that whenever it is invoking xnmgraph with the '- useOvwSelName' option ovw does not pass any selection names, instead it assumes that xnmgraph is going to retrieve the list through an OVW API call. xnmgraph has been changed so that, when it sees this option (useOvwSelName) is set and no node names are passed on the command line, it calls an ovw api to retrieve the list (selection names) of nodes selected in ovw. Thus it gets each selection name as a separate entry in the list and doesnt have to bother with delimiting them. PHSS_25691: When ovrepld releases the failover, it was incorrectly freeing memory. Resolution: ovrepld was changed to handle memory problem PHSS_25679: Failed name server queries can impede the performance of some NNM processes. Resolution: Added a No Lookup database (see the snmpnolookupconf man page) that can be populated with hostnames that should not be resolved to an IP address using the system IP name service. Added the ipNoLookup.conf file that can be populated with IP addresses that should not be resolved to hostnames using the system IP name service. PHSS_25660: Under certain conditions an event created by ECS did not get a valid uuid assigned to it. Resolution: A valid uuid is now assigned to new events created by ECS. PHSS_25649: 8606221306: Incorrect test for existence of access restrictions caused empty list to be output from Launcher registration reader. 8606132326: NP's Registration reader was never enabled to output information for Access statements. 8606125324: ovlaunch.exe's URL CGI parameter was not checked for content. 8606111385: OVwwwInit had login parameter turned off. 8606218004: Thread.stop() is deprecated, should not be called under Java 2. Resolution: 8606221306: Launcher registration reader code changed to correctly recognize access restrictions and generate list only when non-zero number of elements found. 8606132326: NP registration reader code now responds to Access statements. 8606125324: Modify the code so it tests for zero length and for length 1 with value of "1" 8606111385: change argument passed to OVwwwInit from FALSE to TRUE to turn on session checking. 8606218004: Removed and replaced calls to Thread.stop() PHSS_25636: 1. When the ScheduledMaintenance circuit determined that the next Scheduled Maintenance period was in the next month, the month was incremented but the day was not reinitialized to 1. This caused the ScheduledMaintenance circuit to fail to determine the next Scheduled Maintenance period and alarms were not correlated. 2. When entering subsequent outage periods for a particular OutageSpecification, the ScheduledMaintenance uuid parameter was not updated with the new ScheduledMaintenance uuid value. 3. The Event OID in the EventSourceIdentification table would only match an entire specific trap OID. There was no check to match only the trap enterprise. Resolution: 1. The appropriate parameter is now reinitialized when a Scheduled Maintenance period starts in a new month. 2. The ScheduledMaintenance uuid parameter is now updated with the new ScheduledMaintenance uuid value when a new outage period starts. 3. The incoming event is first checked for an exact specific trap OID match in the EventSourceIdentification table and if that fails, a check is made to see if the incoming event's enterprise matches a trap enterprise in the table. PHSS_25594: 1. Changes from NNM 6.1 to 6.2 resulted in xnmgraph not receiving the correct arguments from xnmbrowser on Windows/NT and Win2K platforms. 2. Changes from NNM 6.1 to 6.2 resulted in xnmgraph using the colon in IPX addresses as part of the mib specification; hence the "Incorrect number of ':' (9, 8 required) separators in option" error. Resolution: 1. The code was changed to pass xnmgraph the correct argument strings. 2. Same fix as 1. PHSS_25572: A corner-case was found where the code to pick the next interface to test for SNMP during a PICK_SNMP_ADDR_POLL could cause netmon to continually reschedule a PICK_SNMP_ADDR_POLL for a device which does not respond to SNMP. Resolution: The code was fixed to handle this corner-case and keep netmon from spinning during a PICK_SNMP_ADDR_POLL. PHSS_25566: netmon changes the status polling interval for all nodes which are determined to be secondary failures. Resolution: netmon will now check to see whether or not a node which has been determined to be a secondary failure is an important node. If the node passes the important node filter, the status polling interval will not be changed. Otherwise, it will be changed as determied by the status polling reduction multiplier. PHSS_25564: Solid Server versions 3.51.163 and 3.51.0119 (Windows and Unix respectively) sets itself ready for user commands before it has actually finished its startup processes. Resolution: SolidTech has corrected this problem with their latest patch, Solid Server version 3.51.0164 PHSS_25550: The local hostname was being used. The OV server name should be used when constructing the ECS URL. Resolution: The OV server name is now used when constructing the ECS URL. PHSS_25515: By default CDP View discovery does not check whether CDP nodes are Unmanaged, or not in the Topology database. Resolution: Implement an optional parameter, "managedNodes", which when set to 1, ensures that discovery does not go beyond CDP nodes that are either Unmanaged, or not in the Topology database. PHSS_25481: Two coding defects are being addressed in this patch: 1. When the user does not specify at least one of the -P and -S options (to the ovcoldelsql command), the result is a malformed SQL delete statement that deletes all rows from the raw and reduced trend tables in the data warehouse. 2. The "nodelete" option is ignored for the text collection table in the data warehouse. This table is trimmed even though the user asked to suppress the trim operation (via the nodelete option). Resolution: The SQL delete statement in the ovcoldelsql command is being corrected so that it will not default to deleting all raw and reduced trend data. In addition to correcting the malformed SQL delete statement, a new default has been established so that only data older than one year will be deleted in the default case. Text collection data will no longer be deleted if the "-nodelete" option is specified in the ovcoldelsql command. PHSS_25479: The ovdwtopo command fails to export some of the node capability fields (isRMON, isRMON2, isDS1, isDS3, isFrameRelay, isSONET, isATM, isCDP ) to the data warehouse. This is due to a coding error. Resolution: The coding error in the ovdwtopo command has been fixed so that the missing capability fields are now exported to the data warehouse. PHSS_25431: 1. In libovwww, the results of a call to getprotobyname("tcp") are not checked for validity. As a result, indeterminate data is sent to a subsequent call to socket(). This may falsely allow some other protocol to be used. 2. An unset environment variable (SCRIPT_NAME) in ovwww.dll causes a NULL pointer to be dereferenced. Resolution: 1. Modify the code so it tests the results of getprotobyname(), printing an error message and returning SOCKETFAILED when NULL is detected. 2. Modify the code so it tests for unset SCRIPT_NAME and sets arg count appropriately. Substitute a reasonable value when env var is unset and no args are passed. PHSS_25425: This problem is caused by the fact that netmon will attempt to read the entire interface table on the device, and it will consume too much memory to hold all that information. Resolution: A new flag has been defined which may be used in the oid_to_type file. See the oid_to_type reference page for the N flag. This flag will cause netmon to only pull entries from the interface tables which are associated with entries in the ipAddrTable. This will leave the vast majority of entries in the interface tables unread, and thus will not consume excess memory and network bandwidth. PHSS_25382: xnmevents was freeing memory twice when the user changed the severity. In addition, xnmevents was accessing previously freed memory if the user deleted events. Resolution: xnmevents now handles memory correctly to avoid these problems. PHSS_25364: In some cases a node gets deleted from the object database, but the database cache does not get cleaned up properly. This cache problem prevents the node from subsequently being added back into the object database. Resolution: The code was modified to properly clear the cache when a node is deleted from the object database. PHSS_25349: libovsnmp mishandled the forwarding of traps from CMIP to SNMP. libovEvent mishandled the reporting of errors in the forwarding of traps from CMIP to SNMP. Resolution: Large CMIP traps in dual NNM+DM installations no longer coredump pmd. An informative error message is put into $OV_LOG/pmd.trc* warning of the discard of the oversized trap. PHSS_25343: 1) When netmon finds duplicate ifAlias values on the same node, it attempts to generate an event listing the interfaces which are duplicated. If there are many interfaces, the event data can overflow an internal buffer. 2) Netmon will attempt to free data structures multiple times when releasing failover polling. 3) The problem is caused by a case where netmon forgets to move status polling onto the next interface on the node when an SNMP error is encountered. 4) When netmon pulls the rptrInfoTable, it incorrectly interprets the end of table indication, and aborts the remainder of the config poll. This causes the ifTable and ipAddrTable to not be pulled. Not having this information can contribute to layout problems. Resolution: 1) Netmon has been changed to properly check the length of its buffer so that it does not overflow. 2) Netmon has been fixed so that it will only free data structures once upon release of failover polling. 3) Netmon has been changed so that it will properly move status poll to the next interface on the node after receiving an SNMP error. 4) Netmon has been changed to correctly interpret the end of the repeater MIB table so that the remainder of the configuration poll completes. PHSS_25224: 1. The Alarm Category override var-bind, if contained in an event, always overrides the category configured in trapd.conf, even if the configured category is "Don't log or display"(IGNORE). 2. xnmevents can fail when parsing an incomming event. ovalarmsrv could also fail. Resolution: 1. A check is now made to see if the Alarm Category configured in trapd.conf is IGNORE. If it is, the Alarm Category will not be overridden. 2. The logic to parse incomming events has been fixed. PHSS_25222: A static buffer is getting overwritten, causing the license to be written to the wrong file. Instead of appending the license to the $OV_CONF/.license file, it appends to the $OV_CONF/defaultperms.conf file. Resolution: The contents of the static buffer are now copied to another memory location so as to prevent getting overwritten. PHSS_25144: - In cdpView.ovpl, the HREF tag for ovtopodump.ovpl is not fully specified to to be referenced from OvCgi. Also, there is missing Tag,
, from short-cut view html file. - A patch tool strips off "^M" (control-M) characters from within lines in scripts, rather than just at end of lines, Resolution: - In cdpView.ovpl, fully qualify HREF tags for ovtopodump.ovpl. And make sure
tags are output to short-cut view html file also. - Replace ux2dos utility call in patch build tool with a perl script version. PHSS_25087: 1) There are some places where netmon assumes that a flag indicating existence of an ifAlias is already in the proper state. Sometimes the flag is not in the proper state, and then it gets left in the wrong state. There is also a coding error in ipmap where it does not always respond to a change in ifalias when it should. 2) There are some cases where netmon decides that upon removal of the IP address from a DHCP node, the entire node must be deleted from the database. It does not handle this correctly in all cases, causing an abort. 3) When the MgXServerDown circuit determines that it no longer hears a MgX node, it tells netmon to clear the MgX attributes of that node. There is an error in the code that handles this request in netmon which causes it to spin forever. 4) The polling logic assumed that if SNMP status polling was turned off (per the nonIPStatusPolls=false option) then the device should be pinged. Resolution: 1) Netmon has been fixed so that it properly maintains the flag saying whether ifAlias should be used for the symbol label. Ipmap has been fixed to always respond to the events regarding ifAlias. 2) Netmon has been fixed so that it will properly handle the case of a DHCP node being deleted upon addess removal. 3) The netmon code has been corrected so that it will not spin upon removal of ManageX capabilities from a node. 4) For level2 devices, the nonIPStatusPolls flag is checked before trying to determine which type of polling should be used. PHSS_25085: The logic to add a segment in ipmap is incorrect when a copy operation is being performed at the network submap level. Resolution: The code has been fixed to not try and add a new segment to the network submap if ovw is performing a paste operation. PHSS_24969: Netmon could core when discovering devices with invalid sysObjectIDs. Resolution: The code has been fixed to check the sysObjectID before storing the information in the database. PHSS_24967: OVW registration files define many actions which call external NNM commands with the selection name of a device (commands such as xnmappmon or xnmgraph). They are called via /usr/bin/sh and evaluated but '()' is a special metacharacter for sh resulting in a shell syntax error if the selection name includes '()'. This is true for all shell metacharacters. Resolution: The selection name of a device is enclosed in quotes before being evaluated by the shell. PHSS_24961: ovw did not set the appropriate Motif resource to allow proper resizing of the Find By Attributes... dialog box. Resolution: ovw now sets the Motif resource to allow proper resizing of the dialog box. PHSS_24952: Filter sources are internally stored in a Hash Table, with hash slots being determined by integral summation of characters in source string. Sources with equivalent Hash slot values are chained in a linked list in their slot. When the eventFilter is exported, a check is made to eliminate exporting of duplicate entries. A defective comparison is made which results in some non-duplicated entries being omitted from exported event Filter. Resolution: Correct the defective comparison call. PHSS_24911: When xnmcollect is used to configure threshold and rearm values it writes these values using fprintf("%g"). The values thus get rounded off when they are written to the snmpCol.conf file. Resolution: The format used when threshold and rearm values are written has been changed from fprintf("%g") to fprintf ("%.15lg"). This prevents rounding off unless the values are greater than 15 digits. PHSS_24842: Function _OVinetHostAddress does not handle hostnames larger than 256 characters properly. Function OVmib_read_numeric_objid does not do any boundary check when converting object-id strings to array of sub-ids. Resolution: _OVinetHostAddress function now returns proper error values when the hostname is larger than 256 characters. OVmib_read_numeric_objid does boundary check on the passed array. PHSS_24840: The function xnmevents used to display the submaps displayed all the submaps associated with the event's source, regardless of whether those submaps were currently displayed or not. Resolution: Now the submaps that are currently open are brought to the top and zoomed to the event source rather than all possible submaps. PHSS_24717: The symbol did not have its proper placement set when the point-to-point submap did layout, forcing the symbol down to the holding area region. Resolution: The symbol is now properly placed before the point-to-point submap does layout. PHSS_24680: Error messages were incorrectly translated. Resolution: The Japanese error messages now have the correct text. PHSS_24631: The "Status Polling Interval Configuration" window is generated by a Perl CGI script that parses the output of the NNM "ovfiltercheck" command. The script assumes that ovfiltercheck produces English output, but ovfiltercheck produces Japanese output when run in a Japanese locale. Resolution: The Perl script statusIntervalConf.ovpl was modified so that the ovfiltercheck command will produce output in English. PHSS_24616: Netmon will only lay out bridge-MIB devices which have interfaces connected to only one network object in the database. There was a case if nodes were being renamed that allowed such a connector device to wrongly get an extra interface associated with it which was connected to a different network object. This caused the abort. Resolution: Netmon has been updated to prevent network connector devices from participating in topology layout if they gain interfaces attached to another network. PHSS_24614: There is currently no way to disable ipmap from overwriting the labels on connection symbols. Resolution: Ipmap has been modified to take a command line parameter (-P) or an environment variable (IPMAP_DISABLE_PORT_LABELING) that will turn off any attempts at modifying labels on connection lines. See ipmap reference page for more details. PHSS_24239: Consolidated Patch PHSS_24229: Older shared libraries were inadvertantly omitted from the 6.2 release. Resolution: Older shared libraries were added to the 6.2 software. PHSS_24176: 1. ovdbsetup -o does not work if Oracle examples installed. Installing Oracle examples causes the file $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora to be installed with a field "NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN". The Data Warehouse code uses "ov_net", and this is qualified by the TNS listener as being "ov_net.[NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN]" which does not exist. This causes an ORA-12154 error to occur during ovdbsetup -o. 2. ovdwunloader/ovdwloader may fail based upon case of table names. It is possible to specify the case of tables for databases on NT. The logic for ovdwunloader and ovdwloader attempts to determine the case, but the code did not always use the case-specific table name for the database operations. 3. ovcolqsql error value out of range. The handling of signed longs was not correct for ODBC operations. The precision specified was 10,2 when it should have been 10,0. Some large numbers, such as timestamps, would cause the code to fail with an out-of-range error. 4. snmp_trend_dataset shows instance, not alias, for text collections. Due to a logic error, the code should have used aliases instead of instance numbers for text collections. 5. ovdbcheck often makes ovstart hang for minutes. The embedded database's client library was changed to provide multiple connection attempts and timeouts between connections. This caused ovdbcheck to hang for over a minute when the database was not started. It also hung client applications when the database was not started. 6. ovcoltosql aborts on NT when signal received. On NT, signal handling is on a separate thread from the main thread. The logic for cleaning up included disconnecting from the database, but it was the case that the main thread might still attempt database operations during this time. If the database structures were freed, then the code would abort. Resolution: 1. ovdbsetup -o does not work if Oracle examples installed. If $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora exists with a NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN entry, then ovdbsetupo3.sh will add an entry to /etc/tnsnames.ora ( /var/opt/oracle/tnsnames.ora on Solaris ) for the service ov_net.[NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN]. This will allow the Data Warehouse code to operate. 2. ovdwunloader/ovdwloader may fail based upon case of table names. The logic for handling the "found" table name based upon case has been made to be used where appropriate. 3. ovcolqsql error value out of range. The binding of parameters has been made to use 10,0 which will handle signed long values correctly. 4. snmp_trend_dataset shows instance, not alias, for text collections. A common routine was modified to apply the ifAlias code to string data. 5. ovdbcheck often makes ovstart hang for minutes. The embedded database engine, by default, uses tcpip. Code has been added to use a socket connection to validate that the port is active rather than the SQLConnect call that hangs due to going through the new client library. 6. ovcoltosql aborts on NT when signal received. The code for freeing the database connection has been removed. This operation occurs during the program exiting now. PHSS_24155: 1. rnetstat is wrapping lines due to the fact that the label is too long. 2. It seems like the cdpnode parameter is being dropped somehow. 3. CDP ovw regfile has a typo in URL:cdpNode vs. cdpnode 4. Cisco Symbol files contain multiple symbols, whereas HP symbol files contain one symbol per file. 5. The color of unmanaged nodes (brown) shown in nodeView/cdpView does not match those in the jovw/ovw view. Its off by a shade Resolution: This defect is the central point for all of the code fixes that were implemented, postMR, for CDP view and Node view. See Fix text in CR for details. PHSS_24150: 1. The Java libovw API contains a class (OVBufferedOutputStream) that implements ovwdb's transport protocol. It was not compliant with that protocol when requests greater than 16 KBytes were made (no length was being transmitted). 2. A FATAL ERROR message was being displayed for a normal error condition. However this led users to believe that there was a malfunction in the program. 3. The Java virtual machine changed the model for handling components. Given special code for managing components, the indexing of the second element ( index 1 ) caused the Java code to throw an exception with "no such child 5". Resolution: 1. OVBufferedOutputStream has been reimplemented to account for the ovwdb transport protocol's requirements. 2. The FATAL ERROR messages that should have been reported as normal errors are now displayed with a softer "Error:" message. These normal errors can now be fixed by the user. 3. RaisedPanel has been reimplemented to not override getComponent. This eliminates the problem of looking for components incorrectly, i.e. that each component is searched by its index number directly. PHSS_24137: 1) On Unix, ovhelp creates the path for the message catalog that the help viewer is going to use. The path includes the $LANG variable. Unfortunately, ovhelp did not allocate enough space for the name of the help file, which sometimes caused memory to be overwritten and caused a segmentation fault, especially if $LANG was a short name such as "ja". 2) _MSG_OVW_REMOVEDROPCALLBACK was missing from the dispatcher case statement. Resolution: 1) ovhelp now allocates enough space to build the message catalog path name. 2)Add _MSG_OVW_REMOVEDROPCALLBACK to the case statement. PHSS_24119: Memory was not being freed properly. Resolution: Memory is now being freed. PHSS_24110: NNM Licensing does not properly parse ITO Emergency license keys. Resolution: Modify the _OVNNMreadLicEntries function to properly parse ITO Emergency license keys. ----------------------------------------------------------- A handle to one of the xnmgraph dialogs (the Stat dialog) is obtained but not validated before being used. As a result of the GUIs being closed, in some circumstances, the dialog object may have been freed. Resolution: Ensure that any dialog handle we obtain is still valid before we use it. -- SR 8606193368 8606196210 ------------------------------ ovw did not do error checking when reading in gif89 images; corrupted images caused ovw to overwrite memory. On ovw startup, the initial home submap displayed did not have its user-initiated reference count set. Network Presenter uses OVwLoadSubmap and OVwUnloadSubmap to load and unload its submap. The OVwUnloadSubmap call when Network Presenter exited caused the home submap to be closed because its user-initiated reference count was not set. If there were no other submaps displayed, the root submap was displayed in its place. Resolution: ovw now performs additional error-checking when loading gif89 images. ovw also now sets the user-initiated reference count on the home submap when it is displayed upon startup. -- SR 8606184761 ------------------------------------------ Web Alarm Category window widths were hard-coded in CGI program that generates HTML parameters. Did not account for number of characters in labels nor the size of font with which they are displayed. Window content was centered and allowed buttons and text to roll off both sides. Resolution: ovalarm.exe has been modified to detect wide labels and generate maximum widths needed to allow proper display of buttons and labels. It attempts to account for wider fonts used in certain locales. Window contents are now left-justified. -- SR 8606193427 8606195686 ------------------------------- 1) The tracing feature of netmon does not include the reason for opening an SNMP session when tracing the session creation. 2) The process of adding the non-IP node in an unmanaged state will cause an abort if there is a failure to add the node to the database. Resolution: 1) The SNMP session tracing messages have been enhanced to include the reason for creation of the session. 2) The netmon process has been changed so that it will not abort when it encounters an error adding a node to the database. -- SR 8606163748 ------------------------------------------ 1.The component used to display alarms in the details window had some internal limitations and implementation deficiencies which prevented it from displaying text messages longer than the screen width. Its scrolling model failed when zero-width columns were included (as does the alarm browser) 2. Parsing was incorrect for empty fields 3. Internal mechanism used '|' character as separator char. Resolution: 1. Replaced tree control component with more robust version 2. Fixed parser to handle empty fields. 3. Replaced internal mechanism for storing field info. -- SR 8606196677 ------------------------------------------ A handle to one of the xnmgraph dialogs (the Stat dialog) is obtained but not validated before being used. As a result of the GUIs being closed, in some circumstances, the dialog object may have been freed. Resolution: Ensure that any dialog handle we obtain is still valid before we use it. -- SR 8606193919 ------------------------------------------ The ScheduledMaintenance circuit is designed to handle an end of month transition, but in one instance an internally calculated month day value being used in an intermediate calculation caused a range error even though the value was valid in that instance. Resolution: The ScheduledMaintenance circuit will no longer throw a range error in that particular case. -- SR 8606184718 ------------------------------------------ This problem is caused by a transient condition where ovdbcheck fails to connect to the data warehouse's embedded database. ovdbcheck subsequently aborts. Resolution: The ovdbcheck code was modified to retry the database connection twice before giving up. Since the error condition is very transient, this keeps ovdbcheck from dying. The code was also modified to gather more diagnostic information about the connect failure which will be placed in the ovdbcheck.log file. (It is still not known why this connection failure occurs.) -- SR 8606184661 ------------------------------------------ jovw was not properly re-initializing its state when it was restarted from the same browser session. Resolution: jovw now reinitializes correctly when restarted from the same browser session. -- SR 8606181224 ------------------------------------------ The COMBINED keyword only worked with the utilization indirection category, but the manpage failed to mention that. Resolution: First, libovutil has now been changed so that COMBINED indirect collections work with both the datarate and utilization categories (but no others). Secondly, the mibExpr.conf(4) manpage now states this fact. -- SR 8606187163 ----------------------------------------- Instead of printing the PID number, it was printing the signal number it was trying to send to the PID (SIGIO = 22) Resolution: The error message now includes the correct PID number. -- SR 8606181875 ----------------------------------------- A message destined for $OV_LOG/snmpCol.trace was being formatted in the wrong way. Resolution: snmpCollect will not coredump now, and the trace message is correctly printed to snmpCol.trace. -- SR 8606188054 ---------------------------------------- The pound sign indicates the start of a comment. The function that read each line from the imported file would search for the pound sign and ignore any text after it. Resolution: To allow pound sign within community strings, the pound sign should be prefixed with a backslash. The function that reads lines from the imported file has been changed so that it now checks if a backslash prefixes the pound sign. If so, it is no longer considered a comment but part of the configuration entry. -- SR 8606192654 ---------------------------------------- xnmtopoconf is meant to manage remote collection stations and therefore the requirement that its system have an unlimited license is by design. The restriction on the station during a manageobj or unmanageobj is because of additional functionality that was never implemented. Despite the fact that from the man page or usage you might infer the station specified in an [un]manageobj can be remote, this was in fact never implemented. Resolution: The usage text (xnmtopoconf -?) and the man page (and NT NNMRef.hlp file) will be corrected to make it clear that the station specified in a manageobj or unmanageobj must be the local station. -- SR 8606182117 --------------------------------------- ipmap did not check to see if any IP Map attributes had changed before starting the synchronization. Resolution: ipmap now checks to see if any IP Map attributes have changed, and only performs the synchronization when at least one attribute has been modified. -- SR 8606181221 --------------------------------------- When ipmap failed to create a symbol it attempted to log certain symbol info fields which were not valid. Resolution: ipmap only logs those symbol info fields which are valid -- SR 8606180991 --------------------------------------- This problem is caused by conflicting versions of odbc library "libodbcinst.so". Both NNM and Cisco use this library but, unfortunately, they use different versions of this library. When the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable prepends the Cisco library path, the NNM data warehouse commands attempt to use the Cisco version of the library instead of the NNM version. Resolution: Modifications have been made to the software build process for the data warehouse commands. They are now built in such a way that they will not be influenced by LD_LIBRARY_PATH when loading the odbc libraries at run time. -- SR 8606181883 ------------------------------------------- ovw used the wrong width and height values for the submap to calculate the number of symbols per row. Resolution: ovw now uses the correct width and height values to determine the number of symbols per row. -- SR 8606188667 8606164874 8606158089 --------------------- Layout was not being done when needed or layout needed to be disabled until all symbols were moved. The local variable sym_type in ovwCreateSymbols() was not initialized and could be accessed without being set first. Resolution: Added call to layout or disabled layout until all symbols were moved. Initialize the local variable sym_type in ovwCreateSymbols -- SR 8606181144 ------------------------------------------- We use the node name, as returned by ovexprguru, to retrieve the object Id (Ovw Id) instead of using the Selection name, through OVwDbSelectionNameToObjectId(). Resolution: Use the Selection name in retrieving the Object Id of the node instead of the node name. Also, to prevent any crash from occurring, validate any data retrieved using the above object Id. -- SR 8606187001 8606174051 -------------------------------- There were two causes for this problem: 1) the algorithm for traversing the Reports directories did not properly close the directories when done. 2) The buffer for sending the report tree to the web browser sometimes overflowed. Resolution: The reporting directories are now closed when nnmRptPresnter is done traversing them. The Java report tree buffer is now sent to the browser with multiple writes of a size suitable to the operating system. -- SR 8606180345 ------------------------------------------ If the map name appearing as User Default Map does not exist in the maps list, ovw tries to open a non-existent map and hangs. Resolution: An error message is displayed indicating that the User Default Map does not exist in the maps list and directs the user to choose a valid map name from the maps list and set it as User Default Map. -- SR 8606203143 ------------------------------------------ There is no well-defined way of controlling the permissions with wich NNM applications create files and directories. In may cases, the umask value determines the permissions of files and directories. Resolution: The following changes have been made on UNIX to solve this problem. 1. A new configuration file has been created which gives the NNM administrator control over the permissions with which files and directories are created. Please read the manpage on $OV_CONF/defaultperms.conf for more details. 2. A script is also provided that can be used to change the permissions of existing files and directories to the values which are considered more appropriate. To ensure that these permission changes are implemented, the administrator must run this script once the patch is installed. Please read the manpage on $OV_BIN/ovperms.ovpl for more details. 3. In addition, as part of the fixing applications that run as root, the use of symbolically linked files for output is no longer valid. In cases where files exist on another filesystem, the directory (not the files) must be symbolically linked. -- SR 8606201244 8606201630 ------------------------------- (1) ipmap on remote consoles cannot connect to pmd. The error reported is: "Fatal IPMap Error: Cannot connect to pmd: bind(): cannot assign requested address" This is due to attempting to bind the IP address specified to pmd. Since this address does not exist on the remote console, the code failed to bind and ipmap exits. (2) Using the netmon.noDiscover file with a wildcard of 192.*.*.* does not discover anything. Other programs using IP address matching might return inaccurate results. The IP address matching logic was modified to allow for partial wildcard strings to be entered (e.g. 15.* instead of 15.*.*.* ). During the parsing of the wildcard string, the first value in the dot notation was incorrectly set to the wildcard character "*". Resolution: (1) The code for binding the address now only occurs if the program is running on the server. (2) The string "*" used for expanding partial wildcard stings is now in separate memory from the memory used for the wildcard sting parsing. Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Login as root. 3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory. 4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch: cd /tmp sh PHSS_27332 5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the patch: swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \ -s /tmp/PHSS_27332.depot By default swinstall will archive the original software in /var/adm/sw/patch/PHSS_27332. If you do not wish to retain a copy of the original software, you can create an empty file named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE. WARNING: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful when using this feature. It is recommended that you move the PHSS_27332.text file to /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference. To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the tape drive, use the command: dd if=/tmp/PHSS_27332.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k Special Installation Instructions: ======================================================== BEFORE LOADING THIS PATCH... If there are any ovw sessions running on either the Management Station or on any Management Consoles, these sessions need to be closed. The "ovstop" command should then be executed. WARNING : the patch will not install if any Network Node Manager processes are detected. BACKUP ALL OpenView DIRECTORIES TO TAPE. This pre-caution ensures that if you have problems after installing the patch, you will be able to restore your current state from tape. NOTE : ovstart is NOT executed after the patch is loaded You will need to manually run ovstart. Also, in order to keep a history of the patches installed on your system the post-install script will attempt to copy this .text file to /usr/OV/ReleaseNotes/patches (or /opt/OV/ReleaseNotes/patches). Please make sure this file is in /tmp before installation. ======================================================== This patch supersedes one or more previous patches. If the superseded patches included special installation instructions those instructions can be found below. PHSS_27332: As nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl are customizable, the patch installation places the new files into the sub-directories under $OV_NEW_CONF instead of overwriting the original files in $OV_CONF sub-directories. If any customizations have been made to the existing nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files in $OV_CONF sub-directories, then the changes will need to be merged with new nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files in $OV_NEW_CONF sub-directories, and replace the existing nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files in $OV_CONF sub-directories with the modified nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files. If no customization has been made to nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files in $OV_CONF sub-directories, then simply copy the nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files from $OV_NEW_CONF sub-directories to the $OV_CONF sub-directories. PHSS_27319: In case, NNMDevKit installation happens over this patch, this patch has to be re-installed. PHSS_27299: 1. Ensure that the files in this patch are also available in the location from which the restore would be performed. 2. Customer defined scripts in the $OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint and $OV_CONF/ovbackup/restore directories are to be modified if the ovresume timeout value is to be passed to ovresume. PHSS_27205: ovstatus may give wrong no. of ovws running when ovstatus or ovpause is executed before ovw pops up the root window( ovw completes the initializations ). PHSS_27183: This patch prevents port connection labels between two devices from appearing transposed in Meta-Connection submaps. To correct existing connection labels, an ipmap resynchronization should be forced by following the steps outlined below: WARNING: The following steps will force a complete synchronization of the map database by ipmap. Be aware that large installations containing many objects may result in extended synchronization periods. Only perform these steps to correct an existing problem since they are not required to ensure correct display of newly discovered devices. WARNING: Backup the OpenView databases before performing the following steps. 1. Exit from all ovw sessions. 2. Run the command "ovtopofix -u". 3. Restart ovw. PHSS_27052: After the patch installation, the Collection stations have to be deleted and added again using xnmtopoconf. PHSS_27050: After installation of this patch, before starting the ovtopmd or the ovw GUI, the env variable OV_NNM_IFLABEL_IFDESCR should be set to "TRUE"(case insensitive). PHSS_26547: This patch extends NNM functionality to allow a customer to specify IP addresses that should, if possible, be excluded from consideration when NNM chooses a name for a node. The list of excluded IP addresses must be placed in configuration file $OV_CONF/excludeip.conf. For more details, see the man page (or Windows NNM reference page) for excludeip.conf that is included in this patch. This man page is a section 4 man page. PHSS_26178: This patch provides the files required to enable: 1. NNM Reporter feature: For directions about installing and configuring these reports, read the "Integrating HP OpenView Reporter with Network Node Manager" (integration.pdf) included with this patch: Search the "Patch Files" section of this document for "integration.pdf". A copy of this file is located in three directories (Oracle, SQLServer, Solid). Pick the directory that matches the database in use for your NNM data warehouse. 2. OpenView Service Information Portal (3.0) OVR:NNM Reports module: For directions about installing and configuring these reports, read the documentation that comes with SIP: "OpenView Reporter Integration with SIP" (OVR_Integration.pdf)available on the following web site: http://ovweb.external.hp.com/lpe/doc_serv/ PHSS_26148: FOR NT USERS ONLY: To get the fix provided in the patch, users should copy OV_MAIN_PATH/ newconfig/contrib/ecs/external/libovecsutil.dll to OV_CONTRIB/ecs/external/libovecsutil.dll PHSS_25742: Consolidated Patch If the previous consolidated patch for NNM6.2 has not been installed on the system and the script ovperms.ovpl has not been run then do the following: A script is provided that can be used to change the permissions of existing files and directories to the values which are considered more appropriate. To ensure that these permission changes are implemented, the administrator must run this script once the patch is installed. Please read the manpage on $OV_BIN/ovperms.ovpl for more details. PHSS_25730: On Unix, copy the ovHomePage registration file to the appropriate directory: cp $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNM-RUN/registration/C/ovHomePage \ $OV_REGISTRATION/C cp $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNMGR-JPN/registration/$LANG/ovHomePage \ $OV_REGISTRATION/$LANG PHSS_25697: Special installation instruction for UNIX USERS ONLY. Run the following command after patch installation to get the updated on-line help. cp $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNM-RUN/nnm.sdl \ $OV_HELP/C/NNM/nnm.sdl PHSS_25693: The following instructions are for UNIX platforms only. Two ovw registration files need to be copied from the $OV_NEW_CONF directory to the $OV_REGISTRATION directory. Please follow the instructions below. - Stop all ovw sessions. - For English platforms do: copy $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNM-RUN/registration/C/nnmLinkMgmt to $OV_REGISTRATION/C/ copy $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNM-RUN/registration/C/ovip/NNM-IP.gph to $OV_REGISTRATION/C/ovip/ - For Japanese platforms do: copy $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNMGR-JPN/registration/ $LANG/nnmLinkMgmt to $OV_REGISTRATION/$LANG/ copy $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNMGR-JPN/registration/$LANG/ovip/NNM- IP.gph to $OV_REGISTRATION/$LANG/ovip/ PHSS_25679: Because the file $OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational/nnm_checkpoint.ovp l is customizable by an adminstrator, the patch installation will not copy this file directly to the $OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational directory. The new file will be placed in the $OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational directory. If any customizations have been made to this file then the changes will need to be merged and the resulting file placed in $OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational. If no changes have been made to the original file, simply copy: $OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational/nnm _checkpoint.ovpl to: $OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational/nnm_checkpoint.ovp l PHSS_25649: Multiple Java archive (JAR) files are updated in this patch. Web browsers that employ caching, either internally or through a proxy server, must have their caches cleared in order to access the new functionality provided by this patch. Procedures for clearing caches vary according to the browser you use, so please follow procedures appropriate for your browser. PHSS_25515: To turn on this feature: 1. For OV Launcher: - Edit $OV_WWW_REG/launcher/C/CDP Append "managedNodes=1" to the following entry for action "NNMCDPview". e.g. PHSS_25222: If you have installed a new product after installing NNM6.2 and the first consolidated patch, and you find that the license for the new product is not working. Or if you have upgraded the license for NNM after installing the consolidated patch, then please do the following: 1. Check the $OV_CONF/defaultperms.conf file to see if the license string is appended to this file. 2. If so, delete the license string from the file and reinstall the license once again after this patch is installed. PHSS_24155: To complete installation of this patch on HP-UX and Solaris systems, manually copy the nodeView and CDPView registration files to the NNM and Network Presenter registration file directories. This is not required on NT or Windows 2000 systems. This should be done after backing up the OpenView directories and installing this patch. As root, execute the following commands: - cp $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNM-RUN/registration/C/nodeview $OV_REGISTRATION/C/nodeview - cp $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNM-RUN/registration/C/CDP $OV_REGISTRATION/C/CDP - cp $OV_NEW_CONF/OVWWW-FW/www/registration/jovw/C/nodeview $OV_WWW_REG/jovw/C/nodeview
