Patch Name: PHSS_21662 Patch Description: s700_800 10.X AudioSubsystem June 2000 Periodic Patch Creation Date: 00/05/26 Post Date: 00/06/06 Repost: 01/04/05 Superseding patch PHSS_22935 introduces behavior that can cause the Audio Server to fail with Envizex II, and possibly other, HP X-terminals. PHSS_21662 does not exhibit this same behavior so it is being re-released until a replacement patch is available. Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.01 10.10 10.20 s800: 10.01 10.10 10.20 Products: N/A Filesets: AudioSubsystem.AUDIO-SRV AudioSubsystem.AUDIO-RUN AudioSubsystem.AUDIO-SHLIBS AudioSubsystem.AUD-ENG-A-MAN Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Superseded Critical: No Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/10.X/PHSS_21662 Symptoms: PHSS_21662: 1. Aserver leaves empty file 2. asecure has bad file permission 3. Insufficient memory allocated in Aserver and asecure PHSS_21481: 1. Aserver has bad file permissions. PHSS_18777: 1. Aserver has memory leak PHSS_17971: 1. Aserver -f option is not working correctly 2. Aserver man page has incorrect information 3. Audio lib has memory leak for -server option 4. audio_editor Save As option fails when the free disk space is > 2GB 5. Full Audio CD input enhancements for Audio III hardware. PHSS_17554: 1. Base enhancement for Audio III hardware 2. Monitoring incorrectly handled in Audio Control Panel PHSS_17121: 1. Audio lib has memory leaks 2. Incorrect handling of processes in Aserver 3. Local DCE RPC not enabled in Aserver PHSS_16221: Incorrect sample values from AGetTransStatus(). PHSS_16046: Aserver hangs if several background send_sounds are started. PHSS_13288: Aserver can abort if multiple clients send sound files simultaneously to the Aserver. PHSS_11308: Aserver can abort if verbose logging is turned on via the "-v -l options. When opening the audio_editor and loading a sound file, an error message can appear: "Insufficient disk space to load file". Even though free space is available. PHSS_10119: Aserver can modify files that it should not modify. Audio library is incapable of dealing with some RIFF/WAV files. PHSS_9775: Aserver can create a file with bad permissions. PHSS_8658: Aserver dies when the system is overloaded. PHSS_7783: Audio doesn't work so well on 710's Invoking the volume control, reducing or increasing the volume or changing the output channels to enable headphone or external speakers seems to hang the Aserver process. Doubleclicking the same sample audio file again or invoking the audio_editor and trying to create audio output again fails. send_sound utility also failing: no more output to be heard. Cannot record sound using the mic input on 712s and J200s. Defect Description: PHSS_21662: 1. Aserver leaves empty file 2. asecure has bad file permission 3. Insufficient memory allocated in Aserver and asecure PHSS_21481: 1. Aserver has bad file permissions. Resolution: 1. File permission for Aserver has been changed to 555. PHSS_18777: 1. Aserver has memory leak Resolution: 1. free() called to plug the memory leaks in the Aserver code. PHSS_17971: 1. Aserver -f option is not working correctly 2. Aserver man page has incorrect information 3. Audio lib has memory leak for -server option 4. audio_editor Save As option fails when the free disk space is > 2GB 5. Full Audio CD input enhancements for Audio III hardware. Resolution: 1. When Aserver is executed with -f option the Aserver code did not take care of removing the old Aserver interfaces. This fix kills all the Aserver instances when Aserver is invoked with Aserver -f option. 2. Ordinary users are allowed to restart the Aserver. But it was documented that only root can restart the Aserver. This incorrect documentation is changed in the Aserver man page. 3. The free() library call was called at appropriate places. 4. The variable holding the value of free disk space over-flowed when the disk space is > 2GB. After this fix the variable will be able to hold values greater than 2GB. 5. The Audio III hardware have an additional input for CD. The enhancements are meant to make AudioSubsystem aware of that input. PHSS_17554: 1. Base enhancement for Audio III hardware 2. Minumum and Maximum monitor gain values were assigned incorrect values. Resolution: 1. The enhancement was done in order to make Aserver work on the Audio III hardware 2. The Minimum and Maximum monitor gain values are now -128db and 0db respectively. PHSS_17121: 1. Audio lib has memory leaks 2. Incorrect handling of processes in Aserver 3. Local DCE RPC not enabled in Aserver PHSS_16221: Phone Mode check was missing. PHSS_16046: Aserver was unable to distinguish among various clients from the same host. PHSS_13288: Critical code section was insufficiently protected PHSS_11308: A syntax error in the source code prevents logging from working correctly. The "Insufficient disk space" error message occurs because signed values are used to check filesystem free space. These overflow and become negative when free space > 2Gb. PHSS_10119: Aserver can modify files that it should not modify. Audio library is incapable of dealing with some RIFF/WAV files. PHSS_9775: Aserver can create a file with bad permissions. PHSS_8658: Under heavy load, the audio library was taking >8 seconds to connect to the Aserver. When the connection was not completed, NCS became confused. PHSS_7783: Audio on 710 fails badly. Problem with latency changes. Problem solved by merely opening audioCtrl device and keeping open as was done previously.
