PHSS_18251: Id = NSMex02168, HSLco15857 Dismount of a tape from SCSI Library fails because Library is still in state of becoming ready. The reported error message is: "Can not unload exchanger medium (Logical unit is in process of becoming ready)." Id = HSLco15658 BSM lost connection to the Backup Media Agent on Novell MA. Id = NSMex02430 Media Agent cannot append to medium. Id = NSMex01795 Media Agent hangs when tries to dismount the tape from HP SureStore 12000e. Id = NSMex02145 SCSI Library cannot mount a media right after the system has been rebooted. Id = NSMex02501 When trying to backup to a device attached to a different host than a picker, the session is aborted with a message: "Can not open exchanger control device (Details unknown)." Id = NSMex01948 Restore fails with message: "Duplicate data block number". Id = NSMex02331 Eject fails, but no message is reported if the mailslot is full/empty during the eject/enter operation. Id = HSLco12927 Backup of Novell 4.11 server fails with an error: "Can not read 3898 bytes at offset (NULL): ([16] resource(s) in use)." Id = NSMex02458 During backup of a Novell filesystem the following message is reported in "SYS/usr/omni/log/debug.log": "NetWareDumpTrustee: NetWareMapObjectIDToName(32,0) failed". Id = NSMex01906 Backup on Novell client does not start and it reports the error: "Could not open options file 'SYS:/usr/omni/tmp/285487120.opt'". Id = HSLco13280 Media Agent does not release all resources to the Novell NetWare 4.11 system at the end of the backup. Id = NSMbb21727 Append on Novell NetWare takes a lot of time. Id = HSLco14322 OmniBackII reports in backup monitor "100 % of backup completed" already at the beginning of the backup. Id = NSMex02266 Novell NetWare Server abnormally ends during backup with various memory errors. Id = HSLco12539 Vbda.nlm and vrda.nlm abnormally end if option "-profile" is switched on. Id = NSMex02368 BMA for NetWare fails with SM/MA protocol error when option "reconnect" is used for broken connection. Id = HSLco12743 Backup on multivolume ExaByte is corrupted from third tape on. Id = NSMex01577 OmniBack does not interpret device sense data. Defect Description: PHSS_21638: Id = HSLco16443 If file size is exactly 4 GB then the backup of such fails with the error: "Unknown internal error". Resolution: Fix is implemented in vbda.nlm. Id = HSLco16918 The message 'Ipc subsystem reports: "Bad message format."' The correct message should report that VBDA was unable to make connection to the MA. Resolution: Messages sent to SM are now NLS_PACKED. Id = HSLco18536 The option -touch is ignored at the restore time, causing the time attributes to be restored always. Resolution: If the option "restore time attributes" is disabled, file time attributes will be set to restore time values. If the option is enabled (default), file time attributes will be set to same values as at backup time. Id = NSMex02573 Restoring OmniBack II 2.10 backup of a Novell Server with OmniBack II 3.00 results in an error: "Nothing restored." Resolution: Fix implemented in VRDA.NLM. Part of SSPUX300_089. Id = NSMex03196 If the NetWare Server bindery context is set to Off, wrong username is used for login. Resolution: Username for login is not dependant on the bindery context setting anymore. PHSS_18251: Id = NSMex02168, HSLco15857 After a SCSI bus reset, the library is started with calibration. OmniBackII, not aware of that, tries to handle media and fails. Resolution: Element drive status is checked with retries in the dismount function. The default value of retries is 5, but it can be adjusted using the environment variable OB2DISMOUNTRETRY. Id = HSLco15658 If the backup is approaching the end of the session and the Media Agent is at the end of the tape, BSM will fail with "lost connection to BMA". This problem appears only if the Media Agent is on Novell. Resolution: Fix is implemented in BMA. Id = NSMex02430 After one successful backup to a tape, a later append to the same tape fails with an error: "Can not forward segment. Can not append to medium." Resolution: Fix is implemented in Media Agent. Id = NSMex01795 The Media Agent can not contact the robotics and fails, if it is trying to dismount a tape in a HP SureStore 12000e which displays "SemiLoaded" in the LCD. Resolution: Fix is implemented in Media Agent. Id = NSMex02145 After the system and SCSI Library have been rebooted, the first use of the Library fails with message: "Can not load exchanger medium (...)" It also happens that syslog.log is filled up with SCSI Request Timeout system messages because the library does not respond to the device driver in expected timeframe. Resolution: Because the library initialization may not be ready or there are problems returning Element Addresses, the Element Drive status is checked with retries in the mount/dismount function. The default value of retries is 5, but it can be adjusted using the environment variables OB2MOUNTRETRY and OB2DISMOUNTRETRY. Id = NSMex02501 After opening the changer device in multihost environment, UMA returns the incorrect result to the Media Agent, and the session is aborted. Resolution: The function for opening the robotics control file (Xs2Init) now handles the return code correctly. Id = NSMex01948, HSLco12743 Backup of multivolume session will succeed normally, but restore fails because of a duplicate data block number reported by VRDA. The last block on the first tape is written again at the beggining of the next tape. Resolution: Media Agent checks if the last block was written although EOT had been reported. In this case, the block is written again to the next medium. Id = NSMex02331 During eject/enter into/from full/empty mailslot on SCSI-II Library nothing happens for 10 minutes. There is no warning message that the mailslot is full or empty and UMA is actually waiting for the operator to fill or empty the mailslot manually. Resolution: New message informs the operator that the medium should be removed from or entered into the mailslot. Id = HSLco12927 Backup of Novell 4.11 server fails if a file is partially locked. Resolution: Fix is implemented in backup DA. Id = NSMex02458 During backup of a Novell Filesystem, the message "NetWareDumpTrustee: NetWareMapObjectIDToName (32,0) failed" is reported in "SYS:/usr/omni/log/debug.log" if OmniBackII cannot find the user in NDS. Resolution: Message is not reported in the debug.log anymore. Id = NSMex01906 Backup on Novell client fails with an error: "Could not open options file 'SYS:/usr/omni/tmp/285487120.opt". Part of the SSPUX300_017. Resolution: Fix is implemented in OMNIINET.NLM. Id = HSLco13280 Media Agent does not release all resources to the Novell NetWare 4.11 system at the end of the backup. Part of the SSPUX300_039. Resolution: Resources are now released at the end of the backup. Id = NSMbb21727 Positioning to the EOD is implemented by seeking over filemarks and reading tape blocks until EOD is reported. Part of the SSPUX300_041. Resolution: Jump over 1,000,000 filemarks simulates positioning to the EOD. Id = HSLco14322 For performance reasons OmniBackII does not report the estimated size of a backup because it would require two traversals through the directory trees. Part of the SSPUX300_060. Resolution: The fix is implemented in vbda.nlm. It is possible to switch off double traversal by specifying option "Backup POSIX hardlinks as files". Id = NSmex02266 Novell NetWare Server abnormally ends during backup of the /CONFIGURATION with various memory errors. Part of the SSPUX300_060. Resolution: The design of the /CONFIGURATION backup has been improved so that less memory is needed now. Id = HSLco12539 Vbda.nlm and vrda.nlm abnormally end on Novell NetWare 3.2 if the option "-profile" is used during backup or restore. Part of the SSPUX300_060. Resolution: More memory is allocated for the delimiting variable. Id = NSMex02368 NetWare BMA fails with SM/MA protocol error when a backup is configured with "reconnect on broken connection" immediately after start of the BMA. The error message is: "SM/MA protocol error => aborting" Part of the SSPUX300_073. Resolution: Fix is implemented in bma.nlm. Id = NSMex01577 When trying to get addresses of the device elements, MA sometimes reports error: "Cannot open exchanger control device." Resolution: Testing for readiness is repeated until the library becomes ready. Id = HSLco16443 If the file size is exactly 4 GB then the backup of this file fails with an error: "Unknown internal error". Resolution: Fix is implemented in vbda.nlm. PHSS_18251/2 includes the following OmniBack II binaries: - netware directory: includes the Disk Agent binaries for Novell 3.12, 3.2, 4.10 - netware-4 directory: includes the Disk Agent and Media Agent binaries for Novell 4.11 Prerequisites ============= Before you install this patch for OmniBack II on the Novell NetWare client, check the following: o Check that no OmniBack II jobs are running on the NetWare server. o Unload the OMNIINET.NLM module. Installation ============ To install patch for OmniBack II on the Novell NetWare, proceed as follows: 1. Install the patch by using swinstall command. 2. On a UNIX system create a temporary directory, for example /tmp/novell. 3.a. For Novell NetWare 3.12, 3.2 and 4.10: Copy packet.Z from the directory /opt/omni/databases/ vendor/da/novell/intel/netware/A.03.00 to the temporary directory from step 2. 3.b. For Novell NetWare 4.11 server: Copy packet.Z from the directory /opt/omni/databases/ vendor/da/novell/intel/netware-4/A.03.00 to the temporary directory from step 2. 4. Switch to directory from step 2. 5. Uncompress packet.Z to get archive file, packet.tar. 6. Run "tar -xvf packet.tar" command to unpack the archive file. The binaries will be extracted to: /tmp/novell/usr/omni The unpacked archive consists of the OmniBack II Disk Agent and Media Agent files that can be found in the subdirectories of the /tmp/novell/usr/omni/ directory. These are the bin and nls/C subdirectories which must be transferred to the Novell NetWare server. 3. Transfer the binaries from the extracted packet to the appropriate locations on a Novell NetWare client by copying, using the ftp utility in binary mode or a floppy disk. Disk Agent ========== To install the patch for OmniBack II Disk Agent on the Novell NetWare 3.12, 3.2 or 4.10 system, transfer: o OMNIINET.NLM, VBDA.NLM, VRDA.NLM, RDANET.NLM, BDANET.NLM and FSBRDA.NLM from the /tmp/novell/usr/omni/bin directory to the SYS:USR\OMNI\BIN directory. o OMNI.CAT from the /tmp/novell/usr/omni/nls/C directory to the SYS:USR\OMNI\NLS\C directory. o OMNIRC from the /temp/novell/netware/config directory to the SYS:USR\OMNI\CONFIG\ directory. To install the OmniBack II Disk Agent on the Novell NetWare 4.11 system, transfer: o OMNIINET.NLM, VBDA.NLM,VBDA1.NLM,VRDA.NLM,VRDA1.NLM, RDANET.NLM, BDANET.NLM, FSBRDA.NLM, and OB2LOGIN.NLM from the /tmp/novell/usr/omni/bin directory to the SYS:USR\OMNI\BIN directory. o OMNI.CAT from the /tmp/novell/usr/omni/nls/C directory to the SYS:USR\OMNI\NLS\C directory. o OMNIRC from the /temp/novell/netware-4/config directory to the SYS:USR\OMNI\CONFIG\ directory. Once you have transferred the required files for the Disk Agent installation, you have to create the connection between the Novell NetWare server and the OmniBack II Cell Manager. At the Novell NetWare Server's command line, type: LOAD OMNIINET.NLM If you are not using the default port number 5555, specify the port number by adding the -port option to the LOAD command. For example: LOAD OMNIINET.NLM -port The Disk Agent patch installation on the Novell NetWare system version 3.X is completed at this stage, while on the Novell NetWare system version 4.11, you have to fulfill additional requirements needed to perform any backup and restore of the NDS database: a. From the Novell NetWare console, run the command LOAD OB2LOGIN.NLM b. Provide the user information to the OB2LOGIN.NLM file to enable successful login to the NDS database. For detailed instructions about this step refer to HP OpenView OmniBack II Installation & Licensing Guide, chapter Installing the Novell NetWare Client System, pages 63-68.
