The saved settings include: - order of the columns - width of the columns - sort order of the columns - height and width of the browser You can save the layout using the following methods: - GUI: change the layout of the browser so that it meets your requirements. Select "View: Save Browser Layout" to save this new layout. - Configuration file: manually write the configuration file "itoopbrw" that reflects the desired browser layout. See below for detailed instructions. When saving the layout, you have the choice between saving a default layout for each type of browser or a default layout for each filtered browser. The browser type includes settings for the active messages, history messages, and pending messages browsers. The default layout for filtered browsers is saved under the filter name. Note that this release is supported in both English and Japanese environments. The menu entry "View: Save Browser Layout", however, is displayed in the English language on Japanese systems. ============================================================ Configuration ============================================================ o To save the browser layout using the GUI ---------------------------------------- Saving a default layout for each browser type: 1. Change the order and width of the columns in the message browser until it meets your requirements. 2. Make sure that the browser for which you want to save the layout is active. 3. Select "View: Save Browser Layout -> Save as Default". For an active messages browser, select "Active". Select "History" for history browsers, and "Pending" for pending messages browsers. 4. ITO saves the layout in the file "itoopbrw" in your home directory. For example, on Windows NT, your home directory is usually in c:\Windows\Profiles\. Saving the layout with a filter name: 1. If you want to save the layout for filtered browsers, open a browser with the saved filter settings. Otherwise, first define the desired filter and save it. Then open a browser with the new saved filter settings. 2. Change the order and width of the columns in the filtered message browser until it meets your requirements. 3. Make sure that the browser for which you want to save the layout is active. Select "View: Save Browser Layout -> Save as Filter Name". 4. ITO saves the layout in the file "itoopbrw" in your home directory. For example, on Windows NT, your home directory is usually in c:\Windows\Profiles\. o To save the layout using the configuration file ----------------------------------------------- If you want to provide a configuration file for many operators, you can also manually write the file using the syntax described below and distribute it to each Java GUI client together with the Java GUI software. 1. Write the configuration file using the syntax described below. If you find it difficult to get started, you may want to create a configuration file using the GUI, and then manually modify the generated file as desired. 2. Save it with the name "itoopbrw". 3. Distribute the configuration file to the Java GUI clients. The file must be located in the "ito_op" directory where the Java GUI software is installed. When the GUI is started (or the configuration reloaded), it checks whether the configuration file exists in the "ito_op" directory. If the file exists, the browser settings are loaded from there. If there is no "itoopbrw" file in the "ito_op" directory, ITO checks the user's home directory. If an "itoopbrw" file exists in both the "ito_op" and the user's home directory, the file in the home directory takes precedence. Configuration file syntax ------------------------- The syntax in the browser layout configuration file is as follows: [ACTIVE { } [SORT ASCEND|DESCEND] [WIN_WIDTH ] [WIN_HEIGHT ] ] [HISTORY { } [SORT ASCEND|DESCEND] [WIN_WIDTH ] [WIN_HEIGHT ] ] [PENDING { } [SORT ASCEND|DESCEND] [WIN_WIDTH ] [WIN_HEIGHT ] ] {NAME:"" { } [SORT ASCEND|DESCEND] [WIN_WIDTH ] [WIN_HEIGHT ] } Where: ACTIVE values for Active filter HISTORY values for History filter PENDING values for Pending filter NAME is a keyword name of the filter; precede " and \ with backslashes; for example, for " in NAME use \", for \ in NAME use \\ determines the width of the column (value 10 means approximately 10 characters); 0 is defines a column that is invisible width of browser window in pixels height of browser window in pixels SORT keyword identifying sorting information for specified column ASCEND identifies the direction of sorting: sort order up DESCEND identifies the direction of sorting: sort order down reserved words are: SEVERITY_COL FLAGS_COL DATE_COL TIME_COL NODE_COL APPLICATION_COL MSG_GRP_COL OBJECT_COL MSG_TEXT_COL Configuration file rules ------------------------ ITO follows these rules when loading the configuration file: o ITO first searches for the configuration file in the user's home directory, then in the "ito_op" directory. If a configuration file is not found, ITO uses internal default values for the layout. o If a browser layout is saved for a filter, this layout is loaded; otherwise the default layout for the browser type is used. If no default layout is defined for the type, ITO uses internal default values for the layout. o If columns are not defined in the configuration file, ITO uses internal default values for the layout. The same is true for the sort order and the height and width of the browser window. ============================================================ Usage ============================================================ ITO automatically applies the saved layout settings. There are no manual steps required from the user. For example, if a default layout has been saved for active messages, ITO loads this default layout every time a new active messages browser is opened. ============================================================ Known Problems ============================================================ There are currently no known problems.
