Patch Name: PHSS_17874 Patch Description: s700_800 10.01-[12]0 Assembler patch Creation Date: 99/04/08 Post Date: 99/05/19 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.01 10.10 10.20 s800: 10.01 10.10 10.20 Products: N/A Filesets: OS-Core.C-MIN Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: No Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/10.X/PHSS_17874 Symptoms: PHSS_17874: 1.Implemented enhancment to check for out of memory errors rather than core dumping 2.Incorrect behavior on the assmbler when the long_return flag is set for a procedure's entry symbol 3.Added -t option to disable the transforming of LDW to LDWS 4.Added support for the RRQ' and LRQ' fixups 5.Fixed a bug in the parsing of nested macros 6.Problem with .CALL opcode 7.Added assembler support for the new Q' fixups 8.FDC instructions that have a number n for the %ra field of the instruction were being translated into 2.0 FDCS instructions without care or concern as to the +DA switch Defect Description: PHSS_17874: 2.The assembler was not generating long return exit sequences when the long_return flag is set for a procedure's entry symbol 3.no way to disable the transformation of LDW instructions into LDWS 5.the assembler went into an infinite loop 6.assembler wouldn't associate it with B,GATE, BV, or BLR instructions. Instead it was associating it with branches after these instructions. Since some of these instructions are not calls, the assembler was generating incorrect errors complaining that the targets of these branches are not procedure entry points 8.Assembler does not obey the +DA switch SR: 0000000000 Patch Files: /usr/ccs/bin/as /usr/lib/nls/msg/C/as.cat what(1) Output: /usr/ccs/bin/as: HP-UX SLLIC/OPTIMIZER UX.10.20.565 (DART45): 03/19/9 9 HP92453-03 UX.10.20.10 (DART45) PA-RISC 2.0 Assembler Apr 1 1999 /usr/lib/nls/msg/C/as.cat: None cksum(1) Output: 1996265763 311296 /usr/ccs/bin/as 3829611902 13444 /usr/lib/nls/msg/C/as.cat Patch Conflicts: None Patch Dependencies: None Hardware Dependencies: None Other Dependencies: None Supersedes: None Equivalent Patches: None Patch Package Size: 370 KBytes Installation Instructions: Please review all instructions and the Hewlett-Packard SupportLine User Guide or your Hewlett-Packard support terms and conditions for precautions, scope of license, restrictions, and, limitation of liability and warranties, before installing this patch. ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Login as root. 3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory. 4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch: cd /tmp sh PHSS_17874 5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the patch: swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \ -s /tmp/PHSS_17874.depot 5b. For a homogeneous NFS Diskless cluster run swcluster on the server to install the patch on the server and the clients: swcluster -i -b This will invoke swcluster in the interactive mode and force all clients to be shut down. WARNING: All cluster clients must be shut down prior to the patch installation. Installing the patch while the clients are booted is unsupported and can lead to serious problems. The swcluster command will invoke an swinstall session in which you must specify: alternate root path - default is /export/shared_root/OS_700 source depot path - /tmp/PHSS_17874.depot To complete the installation, select the patch by choosing "Actions -> Match What Target Has" and then "Actions -> Install" from the Menubar. 5c. For a heterogeneous NFS Diskless cluster: - run swinstall on the server as in step 5a to install the patch on the cluster server. - run swcluster on the server as in step 5b to install the patch on the cluster clients. By default swinstall will archive the original software in /var/adm/sw/patch/PHSS_17874. If you do not wish to retain a copy of the original software, you can create an empty file named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE. Warning: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful when using this feature. It is recommended that you move the PHSS_17874.text file to /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference. To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the tape drive, use the command: dd if=/tmp/PHSS_17874.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k Special Installation Instructions: None
