Patch Name: PHSS_11022 Patch Description: s700_800 10.24 (VVOS) replacement network install files Creation Date: 97/03/07 Post Date: 97/09/25 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.24 s800: 10.24 Products: N/A Filesets: HPUX-Install.BOOT-KRN-700 HPUX-Install.BOOT-SERV-HPPA HPUX-Install.FILE-SERV-HPPA Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: No Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/10.X/PHSS_11022 Symptoms: PHSS_11022: The checkinstall script on the PHSS_9906 patch product did not exclude installation even though the output said it did. During the install process on systems without the HPUX-Install product previously installed, the PHSS_9906 patch would install the product regardless. PHSS_9906: The HPUX-Install product contains 10.20 (HP-UX) install data files in /usr/lib/sw/hpux.install. The files should have been the 10.24 (VVOS) version of the files. The files include the install kernel, the RAM filesystem, the programs used at initial install, and the programs used to assist in loading from the CORE media. Defect Description: PHSS_11022: The checkinstall script on the PHSS_9906 patch product did not exclude installation even though the output said it did. Only fileset control scripts in SD-UX can force an exclusion. PHSS_9906: The 10.24 (VVOS) product incorrectly contains the 10.20 network install files. This patch replaces the 10.20 (HP-UX) version of these files with the proper 10.24 (VVOS) versions. This patch is only necessary for systems that have the NetInstall bundle installed. That bundle is typically not used by sites adhering to the documented install procedures. Note: If the NetInstall bundle is loaded merely to apply this patch, approximately 100Mb of space in /var will be needlessly wasted. Most installation do not require this patch. Dependencies: None Supersedes: PHSS_9906 Equivalent Patches: None Patch Package Size: 24600 KBytes Installation Instructions: Please review all instructions and the Hewlett-Packard SupportLine User Guide or your Hewlett-Packard support terms and conditions for precautions, scope of license, restrictions, and, limitation of liability and warranties, before installing this patch. ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Login as root. 3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory. 4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch: cd /tmp sh PHSS_11022 5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the patch: swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \ -s /tmp/PHSS_11022.depot 5b. For a homogeneous NFS Diskless cluster run swcluster on the server to install the patch on the server and the clients: swcluster -i -b This will invoke swcluster in the interactive mode and force all clients to be shut down. WARNING: All cluster clients must be shut down prior to the patch installation. Installing the patch while the clients are booted is unsupported and can lead to serious problems. The swcluster command will invoke an swinstall session in which you must specify: alternate root path - default is /export/shared_root/OS_700 source depot path - /tmp/PHSS_11022.depot To complete the installation, select the patch by choosing "Actions -> Match What Target Has" and then "Actions -> Install" from the Menubar. 5c. For a heterogeneous NFS Diskless cluster: - run swinstall on the server as in step 5a to install the patch on the cluster server. - run swcluster on the server as in step 5b to install the patch on the cluster clients. By default swinstall will archive the original software in /var/adm/sw/patch/PHSS_11022. If you do not wish to retain a copy of the original software, you can create an empty file named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE. Warning: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful when using this feature. It is recommended that you move the PHSS_11022.text file to /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference. To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the tape drive, use the command: dd if=/tmp/PHSS_11022.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k Special Installation Instructions: If patch PHSS_9906 is installed on your system, you should first remove it by executing swremove PHSS_9906 before installing this patch. To check if PHSS_9906 is already installed on your system, run swlist PHSS_9906 Note that both PHSS_9906 and this patch, PHSS_11022, take up a large amount of disk space. You need to install PHSS_11022 ONLY IF the HPUX-Install product has been installed previously. The HPUX-Install product is not normally installed for VVOS. If the HPUX-Install product is not present, this patch is designed to skip installation. You should notice that this patch has been "excluded" in the SD-UX log files. The bug in PHSS_9906 was that even though the exclusion logic was present, the patch was installed unconditionally. If you need to check if the HPUX-Install product is installed on your system, run swlist HPUX-Install Note also that if you have previously installed PHSS_9906 on your system and you do not have the HPUX-Install product installed, you can reclaim a large amount of disk space by removing PHSS_9906 using swremove as shown above.
