Patch Name: PHNE_9204 Patch Description: s700_800 10.[12]0 Proxy preforked instances loop (export) Creation Date: 96/10/25 Post Date: 96/11/14 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.10 10.20 s800: 10.10 10.20 Products: N/A Filesets: NscapeProxySrv.NSPROXY-RUN Automatic Reboot?: No Status: General Release Critical: No Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/10.X/PHNE_9204 Symptoms: PHNE_9204: CPU utilization is close to 100%. A TOP shows that some of the ns-proxy processes are taking up most of the CPU. The proxy performance itself does not degrade if Netscape Proxy 2.0 P1 is applied. A ps-flp of the process in question shows that C is > 100, PRI > 200, WCHAN is "-" and STATE is "R". Note that these conditions by themselves are not sufficient to say that a proxy process is looping. Normal proxy proceses may go through these condiions for a few minutes and come back to normal condition. Defect Description: PHNE_9204: Problem occured at a customer site in Aug 96. Netscape believes that the problem happens when there is a lossy network between the proxy and the URL being fetched, and also when the operation being done is of the form ftp:// IMPORTANT: There are 4 versions for this patch.
