Patch Name: PHNE_19505 Patch Description: s700_800 10.20 ATM-HSC and HP-PB 3.0/6.0 cumulative patch Creation Date: 99/11/22 Post Date: 99/12/02 Repost: 00/03/08 The Special Installation Instructions were updated to indicate the patch is only recommended to be installed on ATM revisions I.10.20.40 and I.10.20.50. Please review the Special Installation Instructions prior to installing the patch. Warning: 00/03/24 - This Critical Warning has been issued by HP. - PHNE_19505 and PHNE_20947 include a new ATM protocol stack introduced in revision I.11.00.40 of the ATM products. This new stack is also included in all ATM products shipped on the September 1999, December 1999, and March 2000 HP-UX Application media. - This new stack provides new functionality, such as MPOA, LLC, LANE V2 and is significantly different from the previous version. Unfortunately, this new stack and related software can result in the following known problems: 1. A data page fault panic in the function paEcELE11S7 when the LECS is restarted. 2. An ATM LEC interface is unable to become operational after the carrier is lost when the LECS address is configured from the network. 3. An Elan interface is unable to restart after the ATM card and interface are reset. 4. A default route pointing to 127.0.0.1 is added when a backup interface is configured for a LANE in an HA configuration. 5. A kernel stack overflow panic. - The previous ATM patch, PHNE_18443, does not exhibit these same problems since it does not include the new ATM protocol stack and associated software. PHNE_18443 is being re-released until a replacement patch is available. - HP recommends that PHNE_19505 and PHNE_20947 be removed from all systems with an ATM revision earlier than I.10.20.40 installed. To determine which version of ATM is installed, you can use the following command: swlist -l product ATM* If the revision reported for any of the ATM products is earlier than I.10.20.40, the patches should be removed. To insure that as many known issues as possible are addressed, HP recommends that PHNE_18443 be installed on these systems after PHNE_19505 and PHNE_20947 are removed. Please observe that PHNE_19505 and PHNE_20947 must be removed before PHNE_18443 can be installed. A new patch for these revisions of ATM is expected by mid-April. - For systems with ATM revision I.10.20.40 or I.10.20.50, removing PHNE_19505 and PHNE_20947 will not resolve these problems. These problems will be addressed for ATM revisions I.10.20.40 and I.10.20.50 with patch PHNE_21172, which is expected to be released by the end of March. The panic was caused by a bad parameter passed to function paMcRemoveIngressEntry. - JAGab63567: ATM subsystem start-up failure when no ATM card installed. This problem is caused by the fact that the start-up script started some ATM daemons but ATM driver does not let them access some devices if no ATM card is installed. - 1653308841, JAGab64430: Cannot do Token Ring source routing if LECS does not provide Segment ID in the LE_CONFIGURE_RESPONSE. The LEC stack was not retrieving the Segment from the packet to be able to do source routing. - JAGab77735: MAC LEARP entries not deleted or updated. The problem was caused by incorrect implementation of functions which manage MAC entries. In one case the function which starts aging timer was called with a bad parameter. This was resulting to the timer not being started. - 5003462879, JAGab64966: ATM driver logs error messages which are just informative. ATM driver was logging some informative messages in ERROR class. - 5003453373, JAGab64953: a patch can be installed on a subsequent release. The product releases the patch applies to where documented but this was not enforced. - 1653279752, JAGab64354: Loopback routes are not created for CIP and LANE interfaces. Loopback routes were not automatically created for CIP and LANE interfaces. - JAGab83458: Impossible to configure Lan Emulation interfaces when a multiple of 8 number of cards installed. This is caused by the fact that in the function which handles general configuration of LANE, a local variable of insufficent size was used to save the number of ressources to allocate. When there were more than one ATM cards installed, an incorrect number of ressources was allocated. For multiple of a 8 number of cards, no ressource at all was allocated. This resulted to LANE general configuration not being performed. Resolution: - JAGab65558:Now call paMcRemoveIngressEntry with the correct parameters. - JAGab63567: Start-up script has been changed to check if there is at least one ATM card installed before proceeding. - 1653308841, JAGab64430: the Segment ID is now retrieved from the packets if it is not provided in LE_CONFIGURED_RESPONSE. - JAGab77735: The function which starts aging timer is now called with the right parameter. - 5003462879, JAGab64966: corresponding errors are now logged in the right class. - 5003453373, JAGab64953: Now when a patch is installed, the version of the product is checked. - Loopback routes are now automatically created for CIP and LANE interfaces. - JAGab83458: The local variable is now declared with the correct size. PHNE_18443: - 5003463679 (JAGaa95697): data page fault panic in function cmPrcTmr. panic+0x14 report_trap_or_int_and_panic+0x80 trap+0xda8 nokgdb+0x8 cmPrcTmr+0x254 ecActvTmr+0x68 LMG_F_actv_timer+0x5c LEC_F0_ursrv+0x38 sq_wrapper+0x94 str_sched_mp_daemon+0x178 str_sched_daemon+0x290 main+0x5bc $vstart+0x48 istackatbase+0x84 The panic is due to the fact that in function cmPrcTmr, a local variable was to used store the pointer to the next timer structure to be processed. That did not take into account the fact that procesing of current timer could lead to free next timer structure. That may result to data page in cmPrcTmr function or a data corruption if the memory bucket is allocated to another structure. -JAGaa52732 : data page fault in function amUsrM02S01 amUsrM02S01+0xb8 amActvConTbl+0x50 AmLiAsdDatInd+0x20e4 AsUiAsdDatInd+0x48 asV3xAa4Sx_y+0x3c asV30AaDatInd+0x50 asV30ProcessSdPdu+0x90 asV30Pdu8S4+0x14 AsLiAalDatInd+0x154 SAA_F0_a_dl_data_ind+0x48 SAA_F_handler+0x36c SIG_F0_lrdata+0x38 SIG_F0_lrput+0xf8 putnext+0x84 CAM_F0_sp_dataind+0x70 streams_put+0x98 CAM_F_data_ind+0x354 fpci_receive_it+0x1500 fpci_isr+0x348 epic_isr+0x58 mp_ext_interrupt+0x1b0 ivti_patch_to_nop3+0x0 idle+0x254 swidle_exit+0x0 The root cause is the data corruption of signaling control block structure caused by the problem reference to Service Request:5003463679. - JAGab15218: Cannot start Elan Interface configured on ATM card with PPA >= 16. The card PPA is coded on both LEC unit and LEC index The mask used to extract card PPA from LEC enabled only 4 bits, truncating PPA >=16. In this case there was an inconsistence between the value extracted from LEC unit and the value extracted from LEC index. That lead to the rejection of the initialization request. - JAGab92756:Unable to join Elan services with some connections from Elan services (LES or BUS) blocked in "Go Up" state. When the Elan service requests a connection with the LEC, the request is routed to an entity that sends an IOCTL to get the vci, vpi. The implementation of the entity was discarding any negative acknowledgement to the IOCTL. That blocked the entity so that it was no longer able to process further requests. - 5003458067: ATM initialization takes long time (up to 10mn) if DNS should be reached through ATM. This is due to the fact that initialization code of ATM was calling DNS functions to validate local IP addresses. DNS was not yet reachable as ATM was not ready. The delay was due to DNS function timeout. - JAGaa94097: Unable to establish ABR SVCs. The ATM stack was checking that ABR Initial Cell Rate negotiated during the SVC establishement was greater than the Minimum Cell Rate. This is not required by standards. -5003359836 (JAGaa02990): Unable to configure with SAM, Elan interface for Elan with an Elan name including character "|". The character "|" was being interpreted by SAM as a pipe command. Resolution: - 5003463679 (JAGaa95697):Change LEC and Signalling timer implementation to avoid access to timer structures already freed. - JAGaa52732: Change LEC and Signalling timer implementation to avoid access to timer structures already freed. - JAGab15218: Set the proper mask to extract correctly the PPA from the LEC index. - JAGab92756: Handle internal error that was leading to the hang of entities that accepts connection from Elan services. - 5003458067: No longer call DNS functions to validate local IP addresses. - JAGaa94097: Remove checking that the negotiated Initial Cell Rate is greater than the Minimum Cell Rate. - 5003359836 (JAGaa02990) Change SAM to no longer interprete "|" as pipe command. PHNE_17269: - 5003388405: Unable to define two packages over the same Elan for a HA configuration. -1653272641 and 1653270694 : Need to manually lunch the monitor daemon to restore HA on a system where the the primary and the secondary ATM card fail. After ATM cards are up again, the administrator have to MANUALLY launch the monitor daemon (serv_hatmmon) to restore HA over ATM. - 5003423764: swverify returns errors: ERROR: File "/usr/sam/lib/kc/subsys.ATM.tx" should have mode "444" but the actual mode is "644". ERROR: File "/usr/sam/lib/kc/subsys.ATM.tx" had a different mtime than expected. ERROR: File "/usr/sam/lib/kc/subsys.ATM.tx" should have size "632" bytes but the actual size is "0" bytes. The cause of the swverify problem is that the patch configure script resets the Kernel Configuration files to empty. The cause of the SAM file becoming empty is that the configure script is not observing the complete list of ATM SAM revision numbers correctly. - 5003431551: mib-II counters ifInOctect and IfOutOctects are not updated. Some mib-II objects where not updated by the LEC. - 5003423194: data page fault panic in function cmHashListFind panic+0x10 report_trap_or_int_and_panic+0xe8 trap+0xa48 $call_trap+0x20 cmHashListFind+0xd4 ecAllocSuInstId+0x68 ecElanConReq+0x64 ecELE0S0+0xe4 EcMiLecCntrlReq+0x1e4 LCS_F_ctrl_msap+0x5c ELA_F0_config+0x80 ELA_F0_starting+0x6c ELA_F_handler+0x580 LVC_F0_a_srv_trap_port+0x7c LVC_F_handler+0x1038 LEC_F0_lrproto+0x174 LEC_F0_lrput+0x9c putnext+0x74 DLS_F_sp_send+0x5c streams_put+0xe0 TRP_F0_trapctx_send+0x1f4 TRP_F_traplist_send+0x58 NIC_F0_a_settingup_isup+0x24 NIC_F_handler+0x98 NIC_F0_sp_ifstate+0x124 MON_F_enqueue_mblk+0x94 CAM_F_wput+0x600 putnext+0x74 SIG_F0_lwsrv+0x44 sq_wrapper+0xb8 str_sched_mp_daemon+0x284 str_sched_daemon+0x1f4 main+0x944 $vstart+0x34 $locore+0x74 main+0x944 $vstart+0x34 $locore+0x74 This problem occurs when the customer reboots the switch because when such operation is performed the carrier state change several hundred thousands times in 2 or 3 seconds and the physical driver in J2805. - 5003401950: Interoperability problems with FORE's DLE. Fore DLE services uses anycast address to join LES. ATM Stack was only supporting unicast address for UNI 3.0 and UNI 3.1. - 5003359661: use IP multicast over ATM links. IP Multicast packets are mapped to mac multicast on link layer level. Such packets were filtered by the LEC interface. so that it was not able to operate any protocol using IP multicast over ATM (ex. IGMP). - 1653271346: storms of mac layer brodcast packets. If two IP subnet are configured over the same ELAN, HP system forward broadcast packets of the IP subnet it is not attached. This may lead to storms of brodcast packets. - 1653282145: Bad performances over large ELAN This happens when HP system traffic with a lot End systems especially when using openview. The LE_ARP table contains a lot of entries. The processing of timers associated to these timers consume a lot cpu on the expense of data transfer. - 5003447136: Problem to get back primary LEC interface up when LECS address is got from network. Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Login as root. 3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory. 4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch: cd /tmp sh PHNE_19505 5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the patch: swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \ -s /tmp/PHNE_19505.depot By default swinstall will archive the original software in /var/adm/sw/patch/PHNE_19505. If you do not wish to retain a copy of the original software, you can create an empty file named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE. WARNING: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful when using this feature. It is recommended that you move the PHNE_19505.text file to /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference. To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the tape drive, use the command: dd if=/tmp/PHNE_19505.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k Special Installation Instructions: This patch carries a new ATM stack introduced with ATM release I.10.20.40. It is not recommended to install this patch on ATM release previous to I.10.20.40. In addition customers that are using ATM HA may experience network problems due to the creation of a default route pointing to the loopback interface 127.0.0.1 if they install this patch or upgrade to ATM releases I.10.20.40 or I.10.20.50. This patch installs only on release 3.0 or 6.0 of ATM which includes LAN Emulation, it will not install on ATM release 2.0 which product revision is B.10.20.*. You will need to install a later version, prior to installation of this patch. If this patch is installed on release 3.0 and the customer wants to go back to this release, he will have to remove the atm product, and then install the release 3.0 and the appropriate patches. This patch also improves the behavior in regard to the swverify errors caused by the control scripts in the PHNE_15346 patch. However, since the PHNE_15346 control scripts could not be fixed with this patch, if you install this patch on top of PHNE_15346, and then remove this patch, the swverify will disclose IPD synchronization errors. You may ignore them. As this patch works for both HSC and HP-PB ATM products, you may see some normal warnings about some files missing at installation. You may ignore them.
