Patch Name: PHNE_13054 Patch Description: s700_800 10.10 RFC-NETBIOS B.02.02.01 cumulative patch Creation Date: 97/10/30 Post Date: 98/11/19 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.10 s800: 10.10 Products: Lan Manager for HP-UX (LMU) Advanced Server/9000 for HP-UX (AS/U) Filesets: RFC-NETBIOS.RFC-NETBIOS Automatic Reboot?: Yes Status: General Release Critical: Yes PHNE_13054: PANIC HANG MEMORY_LEAK PHNE_10805: PANIC HANG PHNE_10031: PANIC HANG Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/10.X/PHNE_13054 Symptoms: PHNE_13054: 1. SR 4701368787 Manually cached NetBIOS group name disappears. 2. SR 1653236430 A system panic occurs when NetBIOS receives a status query response packet sent by an NT server with a "invalid" transaction id. 3. SR 5003391516 A rogue WFW Client floods the network with NetBIOS UDP broadcast packets sent to the NetBIOS name 0102__MSBROWSE_0201. If HP RFC-NETBIOS is listening for packets on this name it will use up all available system memory processing this packet. Some of the memory used is never released thus a memory leak is produced. PHNE_10805: 1. SR 4701348557 Enable NetBIOS to run over 100baseT lan cards. 2. SR 4701337402 NetBIOS installation fails if lan0 is not configured on the host system. PHNE_10031: 1. SR 4701345504 AS/U net commands fail due to NetBIOS Control structure table becoming full 2. SR 4701345033 NetBIOS Name Conflict response breaks AS/U server and browser services 3. SR 4701345488 AS/U net time command fails due to NetBIOS defect. 4. SR 4701345496 AS/U net view command fails due to NetBIOS defect. 5. SR 4701344954 NetBIOS caused Data Page fault system panic due to an uninitialized variable. 6. SR 4701345231 NetBIOS would stop accepting connection request due to internal table filling up. 7. SR 4701344937 AS/U session will terminate with a Abort/Retry failure due to NetBIOS defect. 8. SR 4701343624 The NetBIOS Name Service fails due to a UDP port failure. 9. SR 4701345264 NetBIOS enhancement to improve file copy throughput performance. 10.SR 4701343863 RFC-NetBIOS caused system panic during AS/U shutdown. 11.SR 4701344291 RFC-NetBIOS caused system panic in lmxloop driver during AS/U shutdown. 12.SR 4701343426 RFC-NetBIOS caused system hang. 13.SR 4701346510 Modified NetBIOS autoconfig script to add warnings about overwriting config file. Back up your system before installing a patch. 2. Login as root. 3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory. 4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch: cd /tmp sh PHNE_13054 5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the patch: swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \ -s /tmp/PHNE_13054.depot 5b. For a homogeneous NFS Diskless cluster run swcluster on the server to install the patch on the server and the clients: swcluster -i -b This will invoke swcluster in the interactive mode and force all clients to be shut down. WARNING: All cluster clients must be shut down prior to the patch installation. Installing the patch while the clients are booted is unsupported and can lead to serious problems. The swcluster command will invoke an swinstall session in which you must specify: alternate root path - default is /export/shared_root/OS_700 source depot path - /tmp/PHNE_13054.depot To complete the installation, select the patch by choosing "Actions -> Match What Target Has" and then "Actions -> Install" from the Menubar. 5c. For a heterogeneous NFS Diskless cluster: - run swinstall on the server as in step 5a to install the patch on the cluster server. - run swcluster on the server as in step 5b to install the patch on the cluster clients. By default swinstall will archive the original software in /var/adm/sw/patch/PHNE_13054. If you do not wish to retain a copy of the original software, you can create an empty file named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE. Warning: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful when using this feature. It is recommended that you move the PHNE_13054.text file to /var/adm/sw/patch for future reference. To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the tape drive, use the command: dd if=/tmp/PHNE_13054.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k Special Installation Instructions: SINGLE_USER SUBSYSTEM_SHUT RFC-NETBIOS must be halted for this patch to install. The LAN Manager for UNIX Server should be stopped with the command "net stop server" and then RFC-NETBIOS should be stopped with the command "nbutil -N stop". This is a FULL product replacement. Original files are not backed up, or saved. /opt/lmu/netbios/bin/nb_ver should display: libnb : RFC-NETBIOS: (Release B.02.02.01) liblmxloop : RFC-NETBIOS: (Release B.02.02.01) netdemon : RFC-NETBIOS: (Release B.02.02.01) nbutil : RFC-NETBIOS: (Release B.02.02.01)
