Patch Name: PHCO_10115 Patch Description: s700_800 10.01 top(1) cumulative patch Creation Date: 97/02/13 Post Date: 97/02/19 Warning: 98/01/12 - This Non-Critical Warning has been issued by HP. - PHCO_10115 can cause top(1) to display wrong user names in the USERNAME field. The uid's displayed with 'top -u' are correct, only the user names are incorrect. - It is recommended that PHCO_10115 be removed from any system that relies on the user name information in the output of the top(1) command. If the NIS initialization enhancement provided in PHCO_10115 is required, then the 'top -u' command should be used to avoid the incorrect reporting of user names. - PHCO_10115 has been included in the following Extension Software General Release Patch Bundles: May 1997: XSW700GR1001 B.10.01.33 XSW800GR1001 B.10.01.33 Jul 1997: XSW700GR1001 B.10.01.34 XSW800GR1001 B.10.01.34 Oct 1997: XSW700GR1001 B.10.01.35 XSW800GR1001 B.10.01.35 Dec 1997: XSW700GR1001 B.10.01.35 XSW800GR1001 B.10.01.35 - Patch PHCO_7201 will be re-released until a replacement patch is available. PHCO_7201: top displays negative cpu usage if more than 300 processes on system. Defect Description: PHCO_10115: The problem occurred due to a linear search of the passwd file using getpwent(3C). A section of top was recoded to use getpwuid(3C) which has better performance under NIS. PHCO_7201: top displays invalid information if system has more than 300 tasks. On a heavily loaded system, top will display negative values for cpu usage.
