Patch Name: PHKL_20359 Patch Description: s700 10.20 VxFS: fix for FS hang and file I/O enhancement Creation Date: 99/11/04 Post Date: 99/11/11 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.20 Products: N/A Filesets: JournalFS.VXFS-BASE-KRN Automatic Reboot?: Yes Status: General Release Critical: No (superseded patches were critical) PHKL_16977: HANG Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700/10.X/PHKL_20359 Symptoms: PHKL_20359: ( SR: 1653304253 DTS: JAGab16493 ) vx_fsync() may not give error, even if it did not work well. PHKL_20117: ( SR: 5003460287 DTS: JAGab15234 ) Customer experiences poor performance with file I/O on large systems like 6-way T600. PHKL_16977: unlink of "." on vxfs causes process hang; this can be reproduced by using unlink(1M): unlink /some/vxfs/directory/. Defect Description: PHKL_20359: ( SR: 1653304253 DTS: JAGab16493 ) vx_fsync() was not checking for error flags in the inode i_intrflag. vx_fsync() should return ENXIO, if error flags are set in inode i_intrflag. Resolution: Check whether error flags set in vx_inode i_intrflag, before returning from vx_fsync(), and return ENXIO, if so. PHKL_20117: ( SR: 5003460287 DTS: JAGab15234 ) Poor performance in file activity on large systems. Root cause is contention on filesys_sema in lockf(). Resolution: To reduce filesys_sema hold time vx_rdwr() should call VX_MANDLOCK() to first check if mandatory locking is supported for file. PHKL_16977: If vx_remove() is called with name ".", it hangs when locking the inode because it's already locked.
