Patch Name: PHKL_16928 Patch Description: s700 10.20 alloc_large_page() takes too long, sguard TOC's Creation Date: 98/11/16 Post Date: 98/12/02 Hardware Platforms - OS Releases: s700: 10.20 Products: N/A Filesets: OS-Core.CORE-KRN Automatic Reboot?: Yes Status: General Release Critical: Yes PHKL_16928: PANIC HANG Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700/10.X/PHKL_16928 Symptoms: PHKL_16928: alloc_large_page() takes too long to execute. On some m/c' particularly Uniproc machines that have service guard setup, service guard may think that the system hung or dead and may initiate failover. Since system may not be completely dead, responds to some service guard mechanism. This confuses service guard and it will TOC or panic. Defect Description: PHKL_16928: alloc_large_page() keeps track of time spent since the routine is entered. But it does not take into account how long the thread had been running BEFORE entering this routine. So it incorrectly estimates the time spent in it before releasing the SPU when looking for large pages. This is difficult to reproduce. Will need service guard and uniproc machines with vxfs file systems. One should load the system sufficiently and keep doing find's on the file system periodically.
