Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf7643b, the UnixWare 7.1.0 or 7.1.1 *.ns.so and cmds supplement, addresses the following problems: SLS ptf7643a addresses this issue: 1. NIS users are unable to log in on a UnixWare 7 NIS client when bound to a SunOS 4.1.4 NIS master. Logins at the console hang indefinitely, and telnets fail with the error: "telnetd: unable to invoke login scheme" SLS ptf7643b addresses these issues: 2. With the NIS package installed, getgrnam() and getgrgid() were failing with large /etc/group files (> 200 entries in one group). 3. With the NIS package installed, several OS commands fails when /etc/group file has many users (>200) in one group. The UnixWare 7.1.1 Maintenance Pack is available from: ftp://ftp.caldera.com/pub/unixware7/uw711pk If your system is running any libraries or commands that are contained in this SLS, these programs will continue to run with the old versions of these libraries or commands until the the system is rebooted. Note that when all necessary patches have been installed, it is recommended that you reboot the system at the earliest opportunity. This will ensure that no programs continue to run with the old libraries or commands. Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Download the ptf7643b.Z file to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. As root, uncompress the file and add the package to your system using these commands: $ su Password: # uncompress /tmp/ptf7643b.Z # pkgadd -d /tmp/ptf7643b # rm /tmp/ptf7643b Alternatively, this SLS package may be installed in quiet mode, that is, without displaying the release notes and asking for confirmation. To do this, use these commands: $ su Password: # uncompress /tmp/ptf7643b.Z # pkgadd -qd /tmp/ptf7643b all # rm /tmp/ptf7643b 3. There is no need to reboot the system after installing this package. The release notes displayed prior to installation can be found in: /var/sadm/pkg/ptf7643/install/ptf7643.txt Removal Instructions -------------------- 1. As root, remove the package using these commands: $ su Password: # pkgrm ptf7643 2. There is no need to reboot the system after removing this package.
