Dear SCO Customer, Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf7425b, the UnixWare Install Supplement for UnixWare 7.1.0, provides fixed drivers that are required during installation on certain systems. SLS ptf7425b corrects these problems: 1. If an HBA driver uses a maximum transfer size that is less than 128KB, the installation will fail (for example, an IBM "ips" driver supporting the IBM ServeRAID HBA). Note: SLSs ptf7406b (or later), the UnixWare 7.1.0 Pentium II and Pentium III Supplement, and ptf7413e (or later), the UnixWare 7.1.0 VM Subsystem Supplement, are additionally required to resolve this issue. 2. A memory address conflict between a device and the "pcic" memory address range of d0000 to dffff results in a red screen at the end of system installation. This screen reports the memory conflict and the failure of the kernel relink. 3. The Symbios C8xx driver incorrectly loads on port 1 of the Compaq 64-Bit Dual Channel Wide Ultra2 SCSI controller. Note: SLS ptf7428d is additionally required to resolve this issue. Note that for SLS ptf7428d to be effective, the Compaq system ROM must include support for the Ultra2 SCSI controller, so that it will be properly initialized with a differentiating signature and correctly excluded by the c8xx driver. If needed, the latest system ROM can be downloaded in the form of a ROMPaq from the Compaq web site. Additionally fixed in SLS ptf7425b: 4. Installing a system with a Mylex HBA using ptf7425a aborts. 5. A page fault PANIC results when trying to boot UnixWare 7.1.0 on some Intel machines. Note: SLS ptf7428d is additionally required to resolve these two issues. SOLUTION SPECIFICS ------------------ 1. The buf_breakup code now honors the max_xfer transfer size set by a driver in the bcb_max_xfer field of its bcb structure. 2. The update710 post-install script now checks to ensure that there are no devices in the memory address range between d0000 to dffff. Originally, it checked for a device at exactly d0000. If there are any devices other than PCMCIA devices between d0000 and dffff, then the pcic driver is no longer loaded. 3. The Symbios C8xx HBA driver incorrectly detects port 1 of the Compaq 64-Bit Dual Channel Wide Ultra2 SCSI controller with option rom on it, as its own. An additional parameter (CM_EXPROM) has been added to the resmgr, which will prevent this from occurring. For further information, consult the documentation for SLS ptf7428d. 4. sdi.c and sdi_layer.c have been replaced with versions that include changes to EDT handling, fixing a problem associated with Mylex controllers with channels that have no attached devices. IMPORTANT NOTES --------------- SLS ptf7425b contains three parts: 1. A Replacement Installation Diskette (Volume 1) used to boot the system on a new install. 2. A Replacement Installation Diskette (Volume 2) used to request 'pkgadd' formatted PTFs prior to the kernel relink during installation. Also, the post-install script has been modified to ensure that if there are any clashes between the memory address range for the pcic driver and other devices, then the pcic driver is no longer loaded. 3. A Supplemental diskette is included in SLS ptf7425b, which is in 'pkgadd' format. This Supplemental diskette will ensure that a corrected filesystem driver is included in the kernel relink at the end of the installation. This corrected filesystem driver allows HBA drivers that use a maximum transfer size of less than 128KB to be used for system installation (for example, IBM "ips" driver supporting the IBM ServeRAID HBA). The Supplemental Diskette is installable on UnixWare 7.1.0 only. To fully implement the solution, SLSs ptf7406b (or later) and ptf7413e (or later) must be loaded immediately after the system is installed. For those Compaq systems that are using the Compaq 64-Bit Dual Channel Wide Ultra2 SCSI controller, SLS ptf7428d should also be installed to ensure the corrected Symbios driver is included in the kernel relink at the end of the installation. In order for this SLS to be effective, the Compaq system ROM must include support for the Ultra2 SCSI controller, so that it will be properly initialized with a differentiating signature and correctly excluded by the c8xx driver. If needed, the latest system ROM can be downloaded in the form of a ROMPaq from the Compaq web site. For further details on SLS ptf7428d, see the documentation for that SLS. SLS ptf7425b should only be installed on: UnixWare 7 Release 7.1.0 SLS ptf7425b will update these files: /etc/conf/pack.d/fs/Driver_atup.o /etc/conf/pack.d/fs/Driver_mp.o Installation Instructions ------------------------- 1. Download the ptf7425b.Z file and the replacement install media images, ptf7425b.bt1.dd and ptf7425b.bt2.dd, to the /tmp directory on your machine. 2. As root, uncompress the file and copy the images to formatted floppy disks using these commands: $ su Password: # uncompress /tmp/ptf7425b.Z # dd if=/tmp/ptf7425b.bt1.dd of=/dev/dsk/f0t bs=18k # dd if=/tmp/ptf7425b.bt2.dd of=/dev/dsk/f0t bs=18k # dd if=/tmp/ptf7425b of=/dev/dsk/f0t bs=18k 3. Install the system using the replacement boot disks instead of those supplied with your UnixWare 7.1.0 system. 4. When prompted for additional PTFs, insert the Supplemental diskette contained in ptf7425b, select "Install a PTF diskette" and press to load it. If you are installing on a Compaq system with a Compaq 64-Bit Dual Channel Wide Ultra2 SCSI controller, insert SLS ptf7428d, select "Install a PTF diskette", and press to load it. Once the appropriate PTFs have been loaded, select "Continue with installation" and press . The release notes displayed prior to installation can be found in: /var/sadm/pkg/ptf7425/install/ptf7425.txt 5. If your system has been installed using SLS ptf7425b, with its associated Supplemental diskette, then the following supplements MUST be loaded, in the following order, to complete your installation: a. ptf7406b (or later) - UnixWare 7.1.0 Pentium II and Pentium III Supplement b. ptf7413e (or later) - UnixWare 7.1.0 VM Subsystem Supplement Removal Instructions -------------------- SLS ptf7425b should NOT be removed from the system once it has been installed. If you have questions regarding this SLS, or the product on which it is installed, please contact your software supplier.
